Release date: November 25, 2014 | Series: Elemental Assassin (Book 12)
Lethal, sexy, and always ready to protect her friends, Gin Blanco (a.k.a. the Spider) takes on the mysterious M.M. Monroe in book twelve of the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series.

There’s nothing worse than a cruel, cunning enemy with time to kill—and my murder to plan. With wicked Fire elemental Mab Monroe long gone, you’d think I could finally catch a break. But someone’s always trying to take me down, either as Gin Blanco or my assassin alter-ago. Now along comes the Spider’s new arch-nemesis, the mysteriously named M. M. Monroe, who is gleefully working overtime to trap me in a sticky web of deceit.

The thing is, I’m not the only target. I can see through the tangled threads enough to know that every bit of bad luck my friends have been having lately is no accident—and that each unfortunate “coincidence” is just one more arrow drawing ever closer to hitting the real bull’s-eye. Though new to Ashland, this M. M. Monroe is no stranger to irony, trying to get me, an assassin, framed for murder. Yet, as my enemy’s master plan is slowly revealed, I have a sinking feeling that it will take more than my powerful Ice and Stone magic to stop my whole life from going up in flames.

I was given a copy of this book by NETGALLEY for an honest review.

Gin Blanco (a.k.a. The Spider) is attending functions in which her nemesis’ daughter M.M. Monroe is renaming parks and libraries in her Mom’s memory. Something just doesn’t seem to add up. Now Gin’s family and friends have their own troubles. Instead of trying to assassinate Gin M.M. Monroe will get her through the legal way. She goes after her family and friends by their business deals and their way of life. M.M. Monroe frames Gin for murder and has the Pork Pit closed for health violations. Gin is put in jail and later is in the “BULL PIN” where they pit the inmates against one another. Gin plans her escape and during her fight escapes. She runs to the Pork Pit for she knows she has a go bag with extra clothes, weapons and a burn phone. While she is in there she is surrounded by the police and M.M. Monroe. The only way for her to get away is if she makes it look like she died in  a fire.

Everyone is devastated thinking that THE SPIDER  is dead. People are leaving flowers as a memorial to her at the Pork Pit. Now Gin has to let her family and friends know that she is alive. They plot to take down M.M. Monroe by legal means, a good old Elemental duel. BLACK WIDOW is awesome and superbly written. Jennifer Estep does it again with another hit in The Elemental Assassin series. This book has well-developed characters and storyline. I could not put it down. I would go to bed and read and it would be 2am. I had to make myself put the book down and go to sleep. I give BLACK WIDOW 5/5 STARS.

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley for an honest review.
This was an awesome read, with a well-developed storyline and characters. This was a fast paced roller coaster ride of a read. When we see Gin she is leaving a class at the college when she sees one of her waitresses being harassed by her ex-boyfriend. He wants her to sell the newest designer drug  Burn at the Pork Pit. When she refuses he is ready to convince her, or let the two vampires with him drain her. Gin was not going to let that happen on her watch. After Gin saves Catalina from her Ex she then has to save have to save her from Bernard Benson, after she witnesses him killing her Ex-boyfriend when he fails to get her to push his drugs. In this book we also get our first look at Mab Monroe’s daughter.
When Gin has to save her sister and Catalina when they are on their way to the precinct to take Catalina to the police chief.  Gin is captured and forced to take the drug Burnso that Benson can see how the great Spider handles the drug. At this point her friends have to save her. I really enjoyed the end fight scene between Benson and Gin, it was just a pure masterpiece . This is one book that is definitely a keeper, and if you have not read any in this series, I strongly urge you to start today. I loved POISON PROMISEand I give it 5/5 stars.

How did I end up in a career where I always have blood on my hands? Well, let me tell you a story about an assassin who thought she could do no wrong. . . .
Ten years ago. A blistering hot August night. I remember like it was yesterday. The night I, Gin Blanco, truly became the Spider. Killing people is what I do best, especially now that I’ve honed my Ice and Stone magic. But back then, I had yet to learn one very important rule: arrogance will get you, every single time.
This particular job seemed simple: murder a crooked building contractor with ties to ruthless Fire elemental Mab Monroe. My mentor, Fletcher Lane, had some misgivings, but I was certain that I had the situation under control . . . right up until I exposed my weaknesses to a merciless opponent who exploited every single one of them. There’s a reason assassins aren’t supposed to feel anything. Luckily, a knife to the heart can fix that problem, especially when I’m the one wielding it. . . .
The story starts out and ends in present day Ashland. She tells Owen about her first solo assassination when she receives roses delivered to her at the Pork Pit. This is a look at Gin when she first started out as The Spider,  and how her impatience at first to get the job done, to end the suffering of a girl from being beaten anymore makes her careless and not gathering all the facts first and not listening to her gut feeling about not feeling right. If Gin would have listened to Fletcher and not been impatient to get the job done, so Charlotte would not have to endure anymore beatings by her father, Gin would have been able to listen to the stones and seen what was going on around her.
Also if she was not bound and determined to go against Fletcher’s wishes in seeing Sebastian and being in that first blush of young love, and rebelling against a “parents” wishes. she would have seen what was really going on around her. Instead she ended up killing the wrong man and almost getting Fletcher and Fin killed along with herself. Now she has to live with the regret of killing Charlotte’s dad and her growing up with out him. I think that is why she always watched out for her. It was a small way for her to try to make things up to her for killing her family.
Gin learned a hard lesson then, that you cannot trust anyone, not even family.  Love is no guarantee of happily ever after. It could be a lifetime of  heartache and disappointments. Life and family is what you make the to be. I really enjoyed this book and the glimpse into Gin’s past. It helped to see how the choices she made changed her and made her into the person and assassin she is today. That is why she is feared by everyone, any why she is fearless. I give this book 5/ 5 stars for the well-developed characters and story line. If you have not read a Jennifer Estep novel, do so. You will not be disappointed.

deadly stingRed is definitely my color. Good thing, because in my line of work, I end up wearing it a lot.

Most people shy away from blood, but for an assassin like me— Gin Blanco, aka the Spider—it’s just part of the job. Still, it would be nice to get a night off, especially when I’m attending the biggest gala event of the summer at Briartop, Ashland’s fanciest art museum. But it’s just not meant to be. For this exhibition of my late nemesis’s priceless possessions is not only the place to be seen, but the place to be robbed and taken hostage at gunpoint as well. No sooner did I get my champagne than a bunch of the unluckiest thieves ever burst into the museum and started looting the place.

Unlucky why? Because I brought along a couple of knives in addition to my killer dress. Add these to my Ice and Stone magic, and nothing makes me happier than showing the bad guys why red really is my color.

Gin hates to shop and she is getting ready to go with Finn to a big Gala event later, so they go to find Gin the perfect dress for the Event. As in regular fashion trouble finds her were ever she goes. She is in the dressing room trying on a hideous yellow dress , when she has to do her special brand of killing.  After the threat is taken care of  in the dress shop, her dress is covered in blood, anyway she didn’t like that dress it wasn’t her color. This book was a fast-paced, roller coaster ride from page one.

Jennifer Estep does it again! I love the storyline and the character development throughout, and each book gets better and better. If you have not read any of the books you will be lost. This book deals with some of Gin and Owen’s relationship, and how it has taken a big hit. Gin had to kill his ex-fiancé that he had not seen for umpteen years, even though she was  a homicidal killer. The Elemental Assassin series is an awesome. I want to be Gin when I grow up. I give this book 5/ 5 stars.
