Diana Pharaoh Francis delivers a downright terrific read.” —Devon Monk, nationally Bestselling Author of Hell Bent on Trace of Magic

“A vividly written world of magic and kick-ass action.” —D. B. Reynolds, author of the Vampires in America Series

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
And a pound of flesh.

Magical tracking expert Riley Hollis is on a mission to save five teenagers lost inside a mountain. But nothing is what it seems, and soon Riley finds herself bruised, bloodied, and embroiled in a battle to bring down a sadistic criminal dealing in human souls and the darkest of magics.

Her only hope may be to swallow her pride and ask for help from her not-quite-ex-boyfriend and his notorious brother—Tyet criminal boss, Gregg Touray. Even that may not be enough to protect her. Something has gone very wrong in the trace dimension and in Riley’s head.

If she doesn’t figure out how to handle the past, the present, the trace, and the bad guys, the road to hell is going to look like a great alternative.

Diana Pharaoh Francis is the acclaimed author of a dozen novels of fantasy and urban fantasy. Her books have been nominated for the Mary Roberts Rinehart Award and RT’s Best Urban Fantasy. Edge of Dreams is the second in her exciting new urban fantasy series—The Diamond City Magic novels.

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley for an honest review.

EDGE OF DREAMS is a fast paced and fun read. The characters and the world building are fantastic. I loved this book and cannot wait to read the next. Riley is asked to find five teenagers who have gone into the mines. These mines are where they mine Sparkle Dust. A drug that is very powerful and addictive. If you take too much, you will turn into a wraith and eventually disappear. She does not expect one of her own to turn on her. Now she must get out of the mines before she gets addicted to Sparkle dust and kill the one responsible in making it.  I love Riley and her determination to break boundaries with her magic, and learning she can do more than she expected. I recommend this book and series to everyone.  I give EDGE OF DREAMS 5/5 STARS.

BOOK REVIEW- “TRACE OF MAGIC” BY DIANA PHARAOH FRANCIS

TRACE OF MAGIC BY DIANA PHARAOH FRANCIS
Book Description
Publication Date: August 29, 2014
Even the most powerful tracers can’t track you if the magical trace you leave behind is too old. But I can track almost anything, even dead trace. That makes me a unicorn, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and the Loch Ness Monster all rolled into one. In a word, I am unique. A very special snowflake. And if anyone ever finds out, I’ll be dead or a slave to one of the Tyet criminal factions.

Riley Hollis has quietly traced kidnapped children and quietly tipped the cops to their whereabouts one too many times. Now she’s on the radar of Detective Clay Price, a cop in the pocket of a powerful magic Tyet faction. When he blackmails her into doing a dangerous trace for him, Riley will have to break every rule that keeps her safe. Or become a Tyet pawn in a deadly, magical war.

TRACE OF MAGIC is a great start to a new series. The characters are well-developed, with a storyline that gives a new twist on magic. Riley Hollis is one of the most powerful magic tracers, but if the Tyet faction finds out they will want to recruit her. Saying NO to the Tyet is not an option. So, Riley downplays her magic and comes off as a mediocre tracer, but when Detective Clay Price hires her to do a trace, he ends up finding out that there is more to Riley that he thought. When his case and the kidnapping of her sister’s Ex-fiancée collide all HELL breaks loose. On the run from the people who want to kill them,  Riley and Clay get a little closer in their relationship. The ones that want them dead, might also be the ones who had her mother killed. One day she will find out exactly what happened to her mother and make them pay. I love this story and cannot wait until the next book to see what is in store for Riley. I have always loved Diana Pharaoh Francis‘ books, and I know you will love this one.  I give TRACE OF MAGIC 5/5 stars.
