When John Standcliff, Satan’s bounty hunter, is summoned to Earth to claim
the soul of a serial killer, he finds the worst of hell’s tortures can be no
worse than the pain of falling in love with a mortal woman.

Corinne Rogerio has come to Maine to research six murders that took place
back in 1656. She has no idea that the handsome stranger she meets in an old
cemetery is actually the murderer she’s been studying. Even worse, he’s been
sent to track down a serial killer who is closer to her than she ever
imagined.

EXCERPT

Sparks shot from John’s ax each time it struck the trunk of the steel tree.
Every blow jolted through his aching arms and rang in his ears, yet he
almost welcomed the racket. He’d lost track of how long he’d dwelled in the
steel forest, chopping tree after tree without pause for food, water, or
sleep. His demon’s body could survive for decades without rest or
sustenance. If he ceased chopping long enough, the bleeding sores on his
palms would heal and his muscles would almost magically stop aching.
Unfortunately he must continue the drudgery until given the order to
halt.

All around him, the smooth gray trees stretched for miles. As punishment
for his crimes, John labored alone, chopping steel trees in Satan’s forest,
only ceasing when sent to collect yet another evil soul to toil in
Hell.

“Hello, John.”

The sneering voice echoed throughout the forest and made John’s skin
prickle with disgust. Pausing, he listened to his own panting breath in the
stillness. Sweat dripped into his eyes and trickled down his torso, soaking
into the wet waistband of his black trousers. He waited for the voice to
continue. Usually when Bee called, it was to send him on one of his gruesome
missions.

“Oh, John, your services are required. Won’t it be nice to go home
again?”

“Home, Bee?” John curled his lip. The little bastard loved
playing with people. Three-hundred-forty-eight years ago, John had been far
more gullible. The first few times Bee had promised him a meeting with his
sister or even a chance to escape from Hell, he had actually believed
him.

At first he had looked forward to visiting the mortal world, but eventually
the illusion shattered. Without friends or family, the world was a lonely
place. People feared him and kept their distance. It was as if they sensed
the evil inside him and instinctively stayed away. Never again would he
experience the comfort and total relaxation of sleep, to close his eyes in
complete surrender. Perhaps worst of all was his inability to fully enjoy
lovemaking. He could pleasure women and feel intense sexual stimulation, yet
climax eluded him.

“Can’t you think of a better story than that?”

“It’s not a story. Your hometown reeks of evil. Our master has been
smelling it for quite some time now and he wants it. You go get it for him,
John, and this time there might be something in it for you.”

“Beelzebub, leave us,” said a soft, musical voice. It sent a
tingle down John’s spine and filled him with such warmth that he nearly
panicked. After so many years in Hell, nothing touched him anymore. What
sort of evil had Bee conjured that could stir his emotions again? The voice
continued. “Once a soul is condemned to Hell, it is rarely allowed a
chance for redemption. There are sometimes cases of a good soul doing evil,
and though it is not condoned, under special circumstances someone like you
may be given the opportunity to move on, providing certain specifications
are met.”

John closed his eyes and drew a deep breath. “It’s not going to work,
Bee. I no longer believe in fairy tales.”

“Bee is gone. His kind cannot abide me.”

“I suppose you’re from up there?”

“I’m from everywhere. I know no bounds. Listen carefully to what I
tell you, John Standcliff. Fulfill the task set for you and send the evil in
your hometown to Hell. Do it without harming an innocent soul, and you will
be freed from Satan’s realm and allowed your chance at
redemption.”

John laughed humorlessly. “You don’t give up, do you, Bee?”

“Believe what you will, but you have only this one
opportunity.”

“Oh, just one?” John’s voice dripped sarcasm.

“At least in this millennium. You’re not the only demon in Hell who
deserves a second chance.”

“Then give one of them my turn. I don’t want it.”

“I understand why you don’t believe me, but keep my offer in mind
during your return to the world of the living. If I’m lying, then you’ll be
no worse off than you are now, but if I’m telling the
truth…”

The voice faded. Moments later, Bee appeared beside John. He was nothing
more than a dark cloud, loosely resembling the shape of a man. Bee
shuddered. “Glad she’s gone. Now. Are you ready to get to
work?”

“Who am I after this time?”

“As usual, I can’t give you too many details. After all, I’m not
supposed to be catching the soul. That’s your job.”

“Bee…”

“It’s a serial killer. Here’s his scent.” Bee’s cloudy black hand
swept beneath John’s nose. The faint aroma was all a demon required to track
his prey. “While you’re there, why don’t you break your own rules and
hack apart some humans? The master loves it when his demons terrorize the
living.”

“Just send me out of here so I can get this over with.”

Blackness enveloped John, and in those dark moments between Hell and Earth,
he absorbed the details of his new identity and a crash course on life in
the twenty-first century.

Paranormal Romance

Date Published: 06-01-2024

Kai – Once upon a time, my kind were protectors, but the modern world
doesn’t believe in legends, so I cruise the oceans, happily single
with no responsibility. During a storm at sea, I rescue an irresistible
woman and get dragged into a battle with a crazy cousin who has developed a
taste for selkies.

Ivy – When I left home to escape an arranged marriage to the leader
of our selkie harem, I didn’t expect to be caught in a storm and
hauled aboard an old tub by a gorgeous guy. Kai is everything I want, but
when I return home to tie up loose ends, I find a killer hunting my people.
We selkies learn fast that to kill a shark, it takes a shark.

Excerpt

The seal fights its way closer to the boat. I’m about to dive in
after it when it reaches the edge. Grabbing a coil of rope, I toss it
overboard. The seal shifts to a blond woman. She clings to my line.

Grunting, I haul her up, fighting wind and water, until she lands, naked
and panting on my deck.

“Hey are you okay?” I kneel beside her. Still breathing hard, she
lifts her gaze to mine and nods. I’m momentarily stunned. She has the most
amazing green eyes I’ve ever seen, not to mention a gorgeous body. Muscles,
generous curves, long legs. If we weren’t in the middle of a storm, I’d be
slack-jawed, but right now my main concern is to keep us afloat. Not that I
couldn’t survive in the open sea, even in a storm, but I’ve gotten attached
to this boat and I’d rather not lose it.

“Come on. I have clothes you can put on.”

We stand and the ship lurches. I reach out to steady her, but her sea legs
are just as good as mine. Not shocking, considering what she is.

I glance off to the side. Another giant wave rises and in it, I glimpse a
big, dark silhouette with glowing amber eyes. It’s gone in seconds.

“What’s wrong?” asks my unexpected guest.

“I thought I saw something, that’s all.”

Historical Romance

Date Published:  03-02-2024

Stories say that in the heat of battle, Grim Hammerhand becomes a
two-legged wolf. His prowess prompts the king to send Grim after his
daughter Asgerd who has been captured by the brutal warrior Stein. In
return, the king offers Grim Stein’s land as well as Asgerd’s hand in
marriage. Mistrusting of all women, Grim vows never to marry. He reserves
his passion for battle and the forge.

Asgerd has loved Grim for years, but the handsome red-haired warrior has
never noticed her. Defiled by Stein, Asgerd doubts she could ever desire any
man again, but when Grim defeats Stein and claims Asgerd as his wife, she
realizes her feelings for Grim are stronger than ever, but can she win the
trust and heart of her reluctant husband?

Excerpt

“Come face your destiny,” Grim bellowed. “I grow tired of
waiting.”

A moment later, Stein and Asgerd emerged from the longhouse. She was more
beautiful than ever. Even her worn tunic couldn’t hide her generous
curves. What impressed him most was that her eyes shone with rage instead of
fear despite the rough hold Stein had on her and the threat of his blade
against her throat. She had always been an uncommonly beautiful woman. Now
he saw that she had courage as well.

“You know why I’m here, Stein.” Grim tightened his hold
on his sword. “You have cheated the king and abducted his daughter.
Now you’ll pay your debt.”

“If you want to kill me, Grim, you’ll have to go through
her—the king’s daughter.”

Stein’s attraction to a woman as luscious as Asgerd was
understandable, but it was no reason to abduct her, and nothing could excuse
his behavior at this moment.

Grim had once fought alongside Stein years ago, but the man who stood
before him was a shadow of that young warrior. Dressed in filthy clothes,
his hair and beard matted, he stared at Grim with eyes glazed from too much
drink. What had happened to him over the years Grim couldn’t say, and
he had no time to ponder it. Asgerd’s safety mattered more than
figuring out the reason for Stein’s downfall, as did reclaiming this
land that the king had given to Stein when he’d been in favor. Clearly
the king hadn’t realized how low Stein had sunk over the years.

“You call yourself a warrior?” Grim curled his lip in disgust.
“What manner of man hides behind a woman? It seems you haven’t
lived with dignity, Stein, but perhaps you can die with it. Release her and
face me.”

A look of defeat and terror passed across Stein’s face. A bit of
reality must have penetrated his madness and made him realize that no matter
what he did there was no escaping Grim’s blade.

Surprisingly, Asgerd took advantage of her captor’s moment of doubt.
With a mighty effort against the hold of Stein’s burly arms, she
managed to thrust all her weight to one side and slam her fist between his
legs.

Grunting in pain, he loosened his grip. She tried to flee, but only managed
a few awkward steps before tumbling to the ground.

Grim howled, a battle cry that never failed to instill fear in his enemies.
He raced for Stein who managed to deflect several blows before Grim’s
blade rammed his gut.

The defeated warrior’s eyes bulged. He dropped his weapon and sank to
his knees.

With a fierce tug, Grim withdrew his bloodied weapon from its cocoon of
flesh and bone. Stein fell to the ground, dead.

Grim turned to the crowd of villagers who had gathered to watch the
spectacle.

“By order of the king I lay claim to this house and lands,” he
said in his most resonant voice. “Obey me and we will live in peace.
Cross me and suffer Stein’s fate. Now go about your
business.”

The crowd dispersed, and his men went about interrogating Stein’s
warriors, deciding who would take orders and who might cause problems.

Grim turned to Asgerd who had risen awkwardly to her feet, her face and
tunic stained with dirt from her fall. She stared at him warily. The
delicate tip of her tongue moistened her full pink lips and her blue eyes
gazed into his.

For years he had tried to ignore her. Grim wouldn’t allow a
woman’s claws to sink into his heart. Bedding them was one thing, but
caring for them was another. Something about Asgerd had always tempted him
far too much, which was why he paid so little attention to her. She was
almost irresistible, and that made her dangerous.

Now he realized her beauty was only a small part of her charm. The way
she’d used her wits and meager strength against Stein inspired his
admiration, and he wasn’t easily impressed. Still she was a woman and
they were crafty.

“Are you hurt?” he asked.

“No,” she replied.

“Then we should go inside and talk.”

Asgerd nodded and took a few awkward steps. It was then that he noticed the
chains on her ankles.

“Wait,” he ordered, placing a hand on her shoulder. When she
stopped, he squatted in front of her. His hand curled around her slender
ankle that was luckily protected by a boot. The soft leather was worn from
the shackle. He checked the strength of the chain and realized he would need
tools to free her.

Grim lifted his gaze to her face. “He kept you like
this?”

She nodded, staring at him. He imagined looking into her large blue eyes
while coupling with her. Those beautiful eyes looked wary, but deep inside
he saw a spark of desire. No doubt Stein had used her badly, but he
hadn’t killed her passion.

Grunting softly, he stood again and swept her into his arms.

Shauna's Silver Swordsmith cover

Vampire Romance

Date Published: December 01, 2023

Daniel – Reared by the master swordsmith who taught me his craft,
I’ve dedicated my life to forging steel. I never thought about the occult,
until a foreign man with unimaginable power stops at my home and forge. He
takes me to Japan where I study under an ancient swordsmith. Nothing and no
one, especially a woman, can tear me away from my craft, or so I think.
While visiting New York City in 1927, I meet Shauna, and everything
changes.

Shauna – Working the streets with only my abusive pimp Jack to look
out for me is no way to live, but I don’t have much choice. When a rich
weirdo takes me to a ritzy hotel and offers me a way out, I’m not sure what
to do. Then he shows up at Jack’s juice joint with tall, gorgeous Daniel
whose mixed messages make my head spin. Can a vampire swordsmith fall in
love with a former pro skirt, or is all his heat only in the forge?

Note: Shauna’s Silver Swordsmith is a short vampire romance with a stubborn
hero, a resilient heroine, historical settings, some spice, violence, and a
HEA.

Excerpt

Right now I’m between customers. I check my makeup in a cracked
mirror in the ladies’ room and saunter across the main floor to see
who might be lonely. I nearly pee myself when two new guys walk in. One of
them is Mr. Kishida. Damn. I never thought I’d see him again.

The guy with him is enough to make a girl’s eyes fall out. If Mr.
Kishida is a vampire, then this guy is one of those Greek gods. Usually
older guys don’t turn me on unless they’ve got a lot of cold,
hard cash, but this one—Whew. I’d do him for free.

He’s tall, though not as tall as Jack, but probably six feet or so.
I’m a real good judge of men’s bodies. Hell, by now I’m an
expert. His black pinstripe suit fits his broad-shouldered body perfectly.
There’s no hiding the curve of muscles in his arms or the strength of
his chest. It’s the kind of chest a girl could snuggle against after a
long night of sex. He’s ruggedly handsome, and his sleek, ash-colored
hair is randomly streaked with silver. Instead of old, he looks
sophisticated.

I can’t remember the last time a guy made my heart beat faster.
I’m so dead inside, or I thought I was until now.

Well, they’re not here to see me, and I’m not sure if I should
just go up and talk to Mr. Kishida. Some guys get sore if you act friendly,
even if you’ve seen them before.

As if reading my mind, Mr. Kishida’s gaze shifts to me. He smiles
ever-so faintly and nods. I smile back. His gorgeous friend also stares at
me, and I feel like I’ve been struck by lightning. Heat floods my
whole body, and I resist the urge to fan myself with my hand.

I’m shoved from behind and stagger, nearly twisting my ankle in my
high heels. I turn sharply to Jack.

“What’s the matter with you?” He glares at me.
“Those two cats are looking for a pussy.”

Well, since Jack’s ordering me to go—

Romantic Horror, Vampire Romance

Adrian – I am a vampire whose physical ugliness intensified with my
immortality. For centuries I hunted alone, disguising myself from prey,
preferring illusions to brutal attacks. Others of my kind spurned me. Some
tried to destroy me, and on them I unleashed my wrath. I suffered the agony
of eternal loneliness, and then I met Anna.

Anna – My life was almost unbearable until a tall, black-haired
stranger with fiery eyes and needle sharp teeth drank my blood and swept me
into an unimaginable world. From the night we met, I gave Adrian my heart,
but a lie spun by a jealous enemy drove us apart. I swore I would never give
him the chance to hurt me again, but denying my love for him was harder than
I thought.

Note: Through My Heart is a very short horror romance featuring vampiric
love. It has a spicy heat level, violence, and a HEA. This Romantic Moments
story is the perfect length for a lunch break, before bed, or any time you
want a quick, romantic read.

Excerpt

I found her on the streets of Pompeii just days before the fateful eruption
of Vesuvius. Many centuries earlier, I had been thrust into the life of a
blood drinker, changed on the field of battle.

To this day, I don’t know why the blood drinker changed me. Beauty is
prized among our kind, and I was known as the Brutal Beast—a warrior
with the strength of a dragon and the face of one.

I suppose it doesn’t matter why. It might have been a gift, or a curse, or
perhaps it was just her sense of humor. I can still feel her teeth tearing
into my neck. I can taste her blood, as sweet and thick as wine.

I digress. Where was I?

Ah, yes, Pompeii. I had arrived on my merchant ship from Constanta, and
while my servants unloaded cargo, I sought nourishment in the brothels that
were plentiful in the city. Even then, I caught the scent of death emanating
from the distant mountain. I had planned to stay for a while, but just one
night might be too long. Still, I needed to drink before moving on.

A delicious scent teased my nose. It was musky, sweet, and sad. The aroma
of despair. My gaze riveted to a beautiful woman—hair as black as my
own, dark eyes with flecks of gold that my keen vision detected even from
across the street. She was slim and her skin kissed golden by the sun.
Despite the warmth of the air, she shivered and rubbed her bare arms that
were imprinted with bruises from an earlier customer.

I approached, still wearing a hood—blood drinkers are rarely affected
by warmth or cold, unless it’s extreme. The hood, combined with my powers of
the mind, would create the illusion of handsome looks. I didn’t spin the
dream quite yet, though. Sometimes, I indulged in the self-torture of seeing
how they reacted to me.

She glanced at me when I paused beside her, so close that my shadow
darkened her face.

“Welcome. Would you like to come inside?” she asked in a soft
monotone. Her voice, like her scent, emanated despair. She didn’t even look
surprised by my appearance.

“Very much.”

With a sigh, she turned and led me past a tattered curtain, into the small,
candlelit room where she lived and entertained customers.

She gestured toward the stone bed.

I remained standing and said, “We should talk first.”

Now she raised an arched black eyebrow. “About what?”

I pulled down my hood, completely exposing my pale, bony face that was
covered in scars, most from my mortal life, but some sustained after my
change, during fights with other blood drinkers, ones who couldn’t keep
their mouths shut and their weapons to themselves. My eyes, deep-set and
black as midnight pools, intimidated just about everyone who dared lock
gazes with me.

She swallowed visibly and audibly, but didn’t look away.

“Will you still take me to your bed, my lovely?”
