SPIDER

About UNRAVELED:
What could go wrong when you’re trying to unravel a decades-old conspiracy?

As the current queen of the Ashland underworld, you would think that I, Gin Blanco, would know all about some secret society controlling things from behind the scenes. I might be the Spider, the city’s most fearsome assassin, but all my Ice and Stone elemental magic hasn’t done me a lick of good in learning more about “the Circle”. Despite my continued investigations, the trail’s gone as cold as the coming winter.

So when Finnegan Lane, my foster brother, gets word of a surprising inheritance, we figure why not skip town for someplace less dangerous for a few days? That place: Bullet Pointe, a fancy hotel resort complex plus Old West theme park that Finn now owns lock, stock, and barrel. At first, all the struttin’ cowboys and sassy saloon girls are just hokey fun. But add in some shady coincidences and Circle assassins lurking all around, and vacationing becomes wilder—and deadlier—than any of us expected.

Good thing this assassin brought plenty of knives to the gunfight…

UNRAVELED –

Since Fedora was already past the gate, I didn’t have time to ease out of the van, sneak through the shadows, and stab the giants in the back the way I normally would have.

Thus I kicked my door open, barreled out of the vehicle, and started running down the street toward the SUV.

“Gin! Wait!” Phillip shouted, scrambling to get out and follow me.

But I needed to get to the man in the mansion before Fedora did, so I tuned him out. The giants whirled around at the sound of Phillip’s voice and spotted me racing toward them. They cursed, pulled guns out from underneath their trench coats, and snapped up the weapons.

Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!

I zigzagged, and the first round of bullets went wide. But when the giants paused to take more careful aim, I reached for my Stone magic and hardened my skin into an impenetrable shell.

Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!

The second round of bullets also went wide. The giants had come prepared, and the silencers on the ends of their weapons muffled the sounds of the shots. No lights snapped on inside the neighboring mansions. They wanted to keep this quiet, well, so did I.

Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!

Two of the bullets went wide, but the third punched into my right shoulder, spinning me around. Still, thanks to my magic, it didn’t blast through me the way it would have otherwise. I skidded on the ice coating the street, but I managed to regain my balance and charge forward again.

REVIEW

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley for an honest review.

Unraveled (Elemental Assassin) is a roller coaster of a ride! The characters and story line is very well-developed. The Scooby gang, Gin, Fin, Owen, and Bria, go to check out the inheritance that his mother supposedly left him. Fin apparently inherited an Old West Theme Park. Now can you picture Gin in an Old West Theme Park? Me either! When they get there, Gin thinks she sees a member of the Circle. Could the Theme Park be a front for the Circle? As you know, every time Gin and the gang plan a vacation, things don’t always work out. Gin always ends up with bodies piling up everywhere she goes. This is no different. This book has all of Gin’s sass, grit, and snarkyness. If you have not read this series I highly recommend it. I recommend this book to everyone. I give UNRAVELED 5/5 STARS.

BITTER BITE
Pocket Books

Release: February 23, 2016
ISBN: 9781501111273

Which is stronger: blood ties or a battle-tested friendship? That’s the question Gin Blanco asks when a friend’s long-lost relative strolls into town. The suspicious reunion is a surprise for everyone—and a big problem for Gin. Book fourteen in the New York Times bestselling urban fantasy series RT Book Reviews calls “unbeatable entertainment!”

It’s not easy being queen bee of an underworld abuzz with crooks and killers. Wielding my potent Ice and Stone elemental magic will only get me so far—my real secret is my tight-knit makeshift family, a motley crew of cops and criminals, dwarves and playboys. My foster brother Finnegan Lane is my right-hand man, but when his suddenly not-dead relative comes back into the picture, I’m the one on the outside looking in.

It’s funny how life works: one minute your best friend is rock-steady, and the next he’s doe-eyed and buying into this whole loving-relative routine to the point of ignoring you. I’d like to be happy for Finn, I really would. But all of my instincts are telling me that beneath the syrupy sweet demeanor and old-fashioned charm, this sudden interloper is planning something. The whole shtick leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. This person might have avoided the grave once, but I’ll put anyone who hurts Finn in the ground—for good.

Excerpt
I stared at the box, more knots forming in the pit of my stomach and then slowly tightening together. I’d recently gone up against Raymond Pike, a metal elemental who had enjoyed planting bombs before I’d helped plant him in some botanical gardens. Pike had received a letter with Deirdre’s rune stamped on it, and had bragged that the two of them were business associates—and that she was the most coldhearted person he’d ever met. I wondered if he’d booby-trapped the box in Deirdre’s casket as some sort of favor to her, to blow up anyone who might come investigate whether she was truly dead.
So I reached out, using my Stone magic to listen to all the rocks in the ground around the casket. But the rocks only grumbled about the cold, the snow, and how I’d disturbed their final resting place. No other emotional vibrations resonated through them, which meant that no one had been near the casket in years.
I crouched down and brushed away the dirt that had fallen on top of the box when I’d opened the casket lid. No magic emanated from the silverstone box, although a rune had been carved into the top of it—the same small circle and eight thin rays that were branded into both of my palms.
My spider rune.
“Fletcher,” I whispered, my breath frosting the air.
The old man had left the box here for me to find. No doubt about it. He was the only one who seemed to know that Deirdre wasn’t actually dead. More important, Fletcher had known me. He had realized that if Deirdre ever made an appearance back in Ashland, back in Finn’s life, that I would find his file on her and come to her grave to determine whether she was dead and buried.
Once again the old man had left me with clues to find from beyond his own grave, which was located a hundred feet away. For whatever reason, he and Deirdre hadn’t been buried side by side. Something I hadn’t really thought too much about until just tonight. I wondered why Fletcher hadn’t buried the supposedly dead mother of his son next to his own cemetery plot. Something must have happened between him and Deirdre.
Something bad.

BOOK DESCRIPTION COURTESY OF AMAZON

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley for an honest review.

How do you tell someone who thought their Mother was dead, but is actually still alive? In BITTER BITE that is just what Gin has to tell Finn. All his life he thought his Mother was dead, but she left him. She was a cold-hearted bitch.  When Finn’s Father leaves a file for Gin to find, she follows the clues that leads her to the truth. Before she can let Finn know that his Mother is alive, she walks back into his life. Now, what does his Mother really want? Well, like everyone else they want Rule Ashland’s underworld. Gin now controls Ashland and Finn’s Mother wants to kill Gin to gain control. The best way to do this is to get in the good with her baby boy. Cause dissension between Gin and Finn and watch everything tumble. Looks good on paper, right? Only, Gin will do everything in her power to pull the blinders off Finn and expose his Mother as the cold-hearted bitch that never loved him in the first place. I love Gin and the rest of the gang in this series. If you have not started to read it, trust me start today. I loved this story and cannot wait to see what is next. I give BITTER BITE 5/5 STARS.
