Publisher: Blushing Books
Publication Date: November 16, 2018
Her betrayed heart said no; but her body pleaded yes.
Newly divorced Mia Reynolds doesn’t like Chief Nolan MacGregor. His arrogance gets under her skin, but it’s her body’s instant reaction every time he levels that cobalt gaze upon her or hints at giving her what he keeps insisting she wants that really gets to her. After her husband’sbetrayal, she’s sworn off getting involved with anyone, and certainly isn’t going to trust her fragile heart with the town’s reformed bad boy.
Nolan wants Mia and refuses to let her prickly stubbornness stand in his way. Once he entices her into an affair and shows her the benefits of submitting to him, her off-the-charts responses prove he was right all along – she is the one for him. When his investigation into an illegal drug ring implicates Mia’s business, he never stops believing in her innocence.
When the Feds go around him, Mia refuses to believe he hadn’t been with her just to keep an eye on her and her nursery for proof the drugs were coming in on the trucks carrying her landscaping orders.
Mia’s reluctance to trust Nolan completely lands her in trouble with a drug trafficker and it isn’t until she is kidnapped that she realizes what her insecurities and refusal to let go of the past might have cost her…
Publisher’s Note: This steamy contemporary romance contains elements of power exchange.

Thirty minutes later, she stood reaching for a potted vase sitting on the top shelf in the showroom when the bell over the door pealed. Before she could climb off the short stool, hard hands clasped her waist and lifted her down as if she weighed nothing. Flustered, she looked up, gritted her teeth and shifted in uncomfortable awareness when her eyes met Chief Nolan MacGregor’s amused gaze. Okay, she admitted it wasn’t the man’s physical appearance she objected to. What woman wouldn’t look twice at a six foot two, broad shouldered, slim hipped man who wore a Stetson tipped low enough to draw the eyes to the slit of his cobalt blue gaze? No, it was the arrogant dominance he wore like a comfortable coat that put her on edge whenever he entered her place, more so now he was crowding her against the shelves and making her even more aware of that ripped body. She much preferred easy-going, polite men.
Wishing it was anyone but him, she stated with a huff, “You’re crowding me, Chief.”
Those sensuous lips curved in a slow smile as he stepped back. “I wouldn’t make you so uncomfortable if you’d let yourself cut loose with me.”
Damn. There went that warm flush spreading through her body when he thumbed back his hat far enough for those enigmatic, blue eyes to zero in on her with a long perusal. He made no effort to hide the appreciative trail he took from her braided, dark brown hair to her sneaker-clad feet. How one look from him could make her dormant body sit up and take notice when she didn’t even like the man was beyond her. She sure as heck didn’t like it. She’d never been one to be ruled by baser urges, instead preferring a positive connection with a man or woman before embarking on a friendship, something that was definitely lacking between her and the chief.
Shuffling behind the counter, Mia breathed a sigh of relief once she put the wide, butcher block space between them. She glanced up, way up at the only man who’d been able to get under her skin. There wasn’t one thing she could pinpoint that rubbed her the wrong way; instead, it seemed to be the uneasy combination of arrogance, dominance and male magnetism she objected to, and her betraying body’s response to those undesirable traits. There was no use denying the way her pulse spiked under the slow stroke of his ice-blue eyes that was as potent as a caress, a reaction she should be used to by now since it had been occurring from the moment she first set eyes on him kissing that woman all those years ago.
“Thanks, Chief, but I have enough on my plate right now to keep me from even thinking about being added to your long list of conquests,” she returned primly, ignoring his taunting smirk. “Thank you for your order. Trish has it ready for you.” She pulled the vase forward.
“I didn’t peg you as the type to listen to small town rumors, Ms. Reynolds.” He nodded at the colorful arrangement. “Nice, thank you. I’m glad I caught you in.” The way he drew out Ms. Reynolds in a slow drawl hinted he knew about the finalization of her divorce. He and every other citizen in Whitetail.
Reaching into his breast pocket, Chief McGregor pulled out two tickets and slid them across the counter toward her. Tilting his hat back even further, he offered her a better view of his rugged face bronzed by sun and wind and capped with coal black hair tinted grey around his forehead. “You haven’t paid these.”
“I’m sorry, I’ve been so busy, I forgot.” Picking up the parking tickets, she winced at the fines. Her habit of pulling over and parking wherever it was convenient to expedite her errands resulted in a parking fine more often than not. That was just one of Pete’s constant complaints that went along with her always being in a hurry. “I can come in later this afternoon and take care of them.”
Leaning on the counter, he replied in that deep voice that never failed to curl her toes. “See that you do. Or, better yet, don’t. Now that you’re officially free, it’ll give me a good excuse to offer you a choice of consequences.”
The corners of his mouth kicked up in another smile, but she couldn’t miss the hint of a threat behind his words that set her heart to hammering with uncertainty. That didn’t concern her near as much as the sudden warm gush between her legs. She didn’t even like the man, for pity’s sake, and she really didn’t care for his forward insinuations.

I live in the Midwest with my husband and our dog, a lovable Great Pyrenees/Standard Poodle. I love dogs, enjoy spending time with my daughter, babysitting dogs and kids, reading and working puzzles. We have traveled extensively throughout the states, Canada and just once overseas, but I now prefer being a homebody. I worked for a while writing articles for a local magazine but soon found my interest in writing for myself peaking. My first book was strictly spanking erotica, but I slowly evolved to writing erotic spanking romance with a touch of suspense. My favorite genre to read is suspense.

Surprise them. Even as I said the words, I could hardly contain my own excitement. I wanted to surprise my mates, too. I’d have to come up with the perfect gift for them – and for Ceres.

“Tell me more about this ‘Christmas,’” my daughter said. “Why do we go outside and decorate a tree? And what do we decorate it with?”

“You don’t decorate it outside. You bring it in the house,” I explained. “And as for what we decorate it with…” I stopped. I had no idea. I tried to remember the illustrations I’d seen in an old book I found packed away in a box in one of the storerooms at the Institute. A poem called ‘The Night Before Christmas.’ I’d hidden it under my bed and read it over and over until one of the matrons found me with it and took it away.

“Um…colored balls and strings of berries. And cookies! We’ll bake cookies shaped like little boys and little girls. We’ll tie them on the tree with brightly colored strips of fabric.”

“Why?”

Her matter-of-fact question stumped me for a moment. “Well, because it’s tradition,” I said. “Wait a minute. We’re on a new world. We should create our own traditions. We don’t have to hang cookies on the tree. We can decorate it with whatever we want. Flowers, pretty rocks we find.” My mind was spinning with the possibilities. “I know what we can do! Ceres, you and I will pack a picnic and go on a treasure hunt. We’ll find special things that remind us of our new life here on Tharon to decorate with.”

The mention of going on a picnic spurred her into action. She waved a hand and the holographic screen she’d been doing calculations on disappeared. “Good. I’m ready for a break. Besides, if we’re going to make cookies, I’d rather eat mine than hang it up somewhere.”

Though she never speaks of her early years as a slave in the Arena, my adopted daughter still carries the scars of abuse and neglect at the hands of Bophe. I know she went to bed hungry so many nights that having enough to eat any time she wants is still a blessing to her. I should have realized the thought of having cookies hanging there in front of her and not being able to eat them would be almost cruel to someone who’d never tasted a sweet treat before she came to Tharon.

“We’ll make lots and lots of cookies,” I promised. “And you can eat all you want.”

She beamed at me, and I thanked the Goddess once more for bringing her into our lives. Growing up, I always wished for a family, and now I had one. Two gorgeous sexy mates who made me feel loved and cherished every day and a daughter who was incredibly smart as well as being the kindest, most courageous soul I’d ever met.

I vowed I’d make their first Christmas special for each one of them.

It’s almost Christmas! Here’s my to-do list:

Bake cookies with my blue-haired daughter from another world. Check

Find the perfect gifts for my dominant oh-so-sexy cyborg mates. Double check

Explain holiday traditions to my alien family. Still working on it.

I never dreamed I’d be celebrating Christmas for the first time on a strange planet halfway across the galaxy.

Growing up back home on Earth, it was just another day. After my parents died, the Institute fed me, clothed me, educated me. But the administrators didn’t believe in coddling their charges. There was no Santa Claus, no tree. And definitely no presents.

Maybe that’s why I’m determined to make my first Christmas with my new family special. So far, the cookies I’ve baked either look bad or taste awful. And my warrior twins would rather have kinky Tharan sex with me than shop for gifts or make ornaments to hang on a tree.

Don’t get me wrong. I happen to love kinky Tharan sex. But I’m still learning how to be a proper submissive mate, so I spend a lot of time bending over with my skirt pulled up while my alien mates turn my bottom cheeks as red as Santa’s hat.

Who knew celebrating Christmas would be this hard?

Ben Morgan Senior stepped off the terrace to greet them, a petite beautiful blonde in white capris and cotton sweater of swirling blues and greens at his side. Behind them followed the only other person on the terrace, a drop dead handsome, dark-haired man who appeared to be about Harriet’s age. Ben Senior, then his wife, Leonora hugged Helen, then turned to Harriet with effusive welcomes.
Their companion hung back. His smile was enough to take Harriet’s breath away. She was still breathless when Leonora Morgan said, “And, Harriet this is our youngest boy, Kyle.”
“Hey, great to see you, Helen,” he said, hugging her mother, then turning to her. “And great to meet you, Harriet.” He held out his hand, which Harriet took.
His firm handshake sent ripples of electricity from her head to her toes. She managed to mumble, “Hello,” as they released each other’s hand.
“Are you alright, darlin’?” Leonora said. “Your face is red as a beet.”
Harriet shook her head. “Thank you, I’m fine. Must be the heat.”
As they were swept up onto the terrace, her mother gave her a quizzical look. When Harriet passed Kyle Morgan, she noticed he was grinning. Oh, Lord, what he must think of me! No man had ever had that kind of effect on her and she suspected he knew it. It didn’t matter though. Harriet had decided many years ago that no man would get close enough to hurt her the way she and her mother had been hurt. No one! Judson Winthrop, her father had been charming, handsome and kind at first and look how he turned out! Then there was Lyle. His treachery and betrayal still cut like a knife. How could I have been so naïve and stupid?
As they crossed the terrace to the bar, they were greeted by a taller, larger version of Kyle Morgan, the oldest Morgan sibling, Ben and his wife Maggie. Their children Emma and Ben the third were rolling around on the grass with the ranch dogs. “And, that would be my youngest sister, Ruthie, wife and mother, still like one of the kids,” Ben said, pointing to a beautiful redhead, in jeans and ranch tee shirt, her hair in a lopsided ponytail. She ducked just as her nephew jumped over her, squealing with laughter, an Australian shepherd on his heels. A tall, lanky cowboy stood at the edge of the melee, cradling a baby on his hip. “That’s my best buddy and now-brother-in-law, Harley Langdon,” Ben continued. “And baby Charlotte, my newest niece.”
Harriet smiled. Ben Morgan didn’t have to add that Charlotte and Harley belonged to Ruthie. The baby’s red curls and his adoring gaze told all.
“It’s all a bit overwhelming at first,” Maggie said. “But, you get used to it.”
“As if there’s another choice,” said a voice at their side. “Robbie Morgan,” he said, extending his hand. “You must be Helen’s daughter?”

Yikes! Walking in on my husband getting it on with his secretary was definitely not on my agenda for the day.
I’m having the suckiest day – ever. First, my father, aka Mr. Grumpy Pants, calls to say his nurse just walked out on him. Likely story. I rush home to pack, only to walk in on my husband having sex with his secretary. Gross. I can’t get out of there quick enough. I’ve got a plane to catch and a dad’s problems to fix. Dad’s problems are an easy fix. NOT. Thank my lucky stars I’ve got Danny, the neighbor boy I’ve had a crush on since I was a dorky, braces-wearing, nose-buried-in-a-book teenager, and a brand-spanking new blog to keep my mind off things. Before I know it, I’m writing product reviews of vibrators and getting questioned by a store rent-a-cop after the world’s worst date. All while trying to figure out how to take things with Danny to the next level. Not to complicate things or anything, but my boss decides to give me an ultimatum–come back in four weeks or don’t come back at all.
Choices. Choices. Choices. A scary new career that may cause me to fall flat on my face or return to my established position? And where does Danny stand in all of this?

Molly’s Misadventures
A Coffee Date with the Police
Posted by: Molly Smith at 4:00 p.m.
Okay, I admit I assumed my first ‘real’ date in over a decade would be a disaster of epic proportion. I never thought—in my wildest dreams—that the next date would be even worse than that. What’s worse than epic? I have no words. Let me know in the comments if you think of a (mis)nomer that works.
Let’s back up a bit, shall we? Just how did Molly end up on another date after the ambush date? I call it temporary insanity. I let my best friend talk me into signing up for a dating website. I must have been completely out of my mind because I also agreed to go on two dates a week. Not enough craziness? I also agreed to blog about these dates. What have I gotten myself into?
Considering the ambush dinner date of last week, I decided to go for a coffee date with Harry. Not his real name, obviously. I’ve decided to use aliases for all my dates that start with the letter ‘H’. I once had a friend who named all her children with names that start with a ‘D’. I always did love alliteration, so I’m totally copying her on that one.
Anyway, my coffee date with Harry. I suggested we meet up in the coffee shop located in a bookstore. It’s a new bookstore I haven’t had time to explore yet. I figured if the date was a dud, I could always do some book shopping because everyone knows you can never have too many books.
The date started out really well. I had mentioned my addiction to lattes when chatting with Harry. When I arrived at the bookstore, there he sat with a fresh latte waiting for me. I’m not going to describe Harry’s physical characteristics because that makes me sound shallow. And now you all think he’s fugly. Well, he’s not. At least not on the outside. Wait until you finish reading to decide on the rest.
We drank our coffees and chatted for about fifteen minutes. Harry was funny with that dry humor that I love so much. My stomach rumbled after a while, and Harry suggested we head to the diner down the street for lunch. I thought it sounded like a great idea and readily agreed.
I should have realized something was off when he then hurried out of the store without waiting for me. I wasn’t expecting him to hold my hand or anything, but he could have walked out the door with me. Well, let me tell you, there’s a very good reason he took off like a rabbit in heat.
I walked through the exit and the security gates started to beep and the lights twinkle. I didn’t think anything of it. I’ve had plenty of security alarms go off by accident before. Being the good citizen I am, I immediately stopped and turned to the security guard rushing towards me.
He grabbed my bag and opened it. To my great surprise, he pulled out the book: Kama Sutra for Beginners. OMG! I don’t think I’ve ever been so embarrassed in my life. I made the incredibly stupid comment: “How did that get in there?” The security guard just looked at me and raised an eyebrow. Yeah, he’s probably heard that one before.
It didn’t take but a second for me to realize that there was only one way that the book got in my bag—Harry, Mr. Not-So-Nice-After-All. I immediately started to lie out of my ass. “Oops!” I may have even done a giggle at this point. “I must have forgotten to pay for that. Shall I just get in line over there?”
Nice try, Molly. The security guard shook his head at me and told me to follow him. He took me straight to the front of the line—because getting caught stealing the Kama Sutra wasn’t bad enough, I also had to piss off all the people waiting in line. But then he decides to find his voice, and he booms loud enough for the whole store to hear: “Caught this lady trying to steal the Kama Sutra.”
I tried to use my nonexistent magical powers to teleport out of the store, but, as I said, my magical abilities are nonexistent. Instead, I just stood there, turning so red my face could have probably lit up the store. I quickly paid for the book and got the hell out of there—escorted by the security guard, of course. I didn’t even bother to see if Harry was at the diner. I was afraid of what I’d do to the thief if I saw him in person. I rushed home and thanked the goddess that I’ve started stocking my bedroom with wine.
Whose idea was it for me to get back in the dating game, again?

About the Author

 photo _MG_0371_2_zps7vwe2qbs.jpg

I grew up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on, from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew, to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. But practicing law really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out running a B&B wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before following the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from my adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.
