When Charley Austin Marches to the Wrong Beat, Life Gets Ugly

Twenty-year-old Charley Austin travels a torn and troubled world as the
star drummer and lyricist for the famous Christian rock band, DelivRus. He
has musical gifts and a clear mission from God.

And that mission makes him a big problem for Lucky Zebul.

Zebul implements a sinister and depraved plan to crush the vulnerable rock
star and put an end to the band’s Godly influence in the world.

Against a backdrop of societal upheaval, Road to Nineveh continues the
story of Charley Austin (introduced in Book 3, The Snare) as he, like a
modern-day Jonah, faces the harsh consequences of turning away from
God’s purpose for his life and succumbs to pride and lust.

Follow the gripping, emotionally charged story as Charley performs in the
bright lights with DelivRus across America and Europe, igniting hope and
faith, while off-stage his soul is systematically smothered by the
darkness.

Will the tough love of his parents, band mates, and Mia be enough to bring
him back from a devastating scandal? Will he regain purpose for his life on
a sun-baked Texas ranch, or for redemption, must he make one more trip to
the Lighthouse on the misty Washington coast?

Besondy’s Christian thrillers have been compared to the character
development and emotion found in a Charles Martin novel. Others suggest
Besondy writes as if he is the secret lovechild of C.S. Lewis and Stephen
King. You can decide.

Road to Nineveh will appeal to fans of edgy Christian Thrillers or New
Adult Thrillers.

Road to Nineveh by Charles Besondy received a gold medal in the Christian
Mystery/Thriller category of the 2024 Illumination Book Awards.

INTRODUCTION

I always thought I knew how to pray, as anytime I remembered to thank God for my blessings, I would pray. Whenever I was feeling lost and had turmoil in my life, I would sit down and pray. After I left my full-time job and a long-term career doing something that didn’t fulfill me, I began feeling an internal restlessness. I had always dreamt of becoming a writer and inspiring those around me. It wasn’t until my mom lost her battle with breast cancer when I truly learned to understand the power of prayer. I went from believing that through faith all things were possible, to the painful realization that not even faith can prevent the passing of someone you love.

Before mom passed away, I used to write poems and I always dreamt of following in her footsteps of being a published author. Writing was always the most comfortable method I had of expressing my voice, and it allowed me to feel connected to one of her amazing talents. After mom died, I didn’t write again for five years. I was so sad that I could not bring myself to tap into the feelings of loss I had experienced from losing my mom.

One afternoon, I sat down and asked God in prayer to show me my truth. I wanted to know where my life was going and what I could do to replace the feelings of sadness and restlessness, with feelings of fulfillment and joy. What happened next was the answer I to my prayer. I sat down and opened my computer and began to write. The words just flowed out of me with such speed, and all I could see in front of me were the words that flooded across the keyboard to create this book.

These words are the reflection of my spiritual dialogue and the answer to my prayer. It is my belief that each of us needs to go within our own soul and discover God, and hear the answer to our own prayers. Nothing can speak for God outside of you because Source energy resides within each and every one of us individually. These words are only my prayer and I chose to share them, because maybe one person will discover their own intimate time with God, and go within for their own prayer. Most importantly, realize that every word, thought, and emotion is heard.

These pages are filled with the answers that I was hearing from the echo’s of my own soul as I shared my time in prayer with God. The words on these pages began to fill with information that I would later go back and read, only to discover that my journey to find knowledge and inspiration, would truly inspire me to share with others who may be experiencing their own journey into self. For some individuals will read these words and find they are not in agreement, as it does not resonate with their spiritual journey at this time. However others may read this journal and become inspired to seek God within themselves and ask the same questions. How can you become happier, more abundant, and find your own purpose on this precious journey called life.

This is just one segment of my journey. One that began with the passing of my mother. If it can lead me to a long and beautiful passage through the windows of my soul, then her death and her fight was not in vain. What she taught me in life, she continued to share with me in her passing –God is real, miracles happen every day, and nothing will ever separate the love of a mother from her child. Not in life and not even in death. My mom often told me that I was a cocoon on the verge of transforming into a butterfly. It’s as if she somehow knew the spiritual journey I would be embarking upon. Through the turns and passages on the road through my spiritual journey, I can now honestly say… Momma…I think I’ve finally become that butterfly.

This short story is about a mother wanting her children to enjoy the
outdoors. The story takes Nathan, Iris, and Mommy on another trip to the
national park. Nathan and Iris are extremely excited to visit with their new
friend, Gob the Gnome again. Gob takes Nathan, Iris, and Mommy on a short
tour of park and Nathan sees a large empty area of the park. Gob explains to
Nathan, Iris, and their mom the unfortunate realities of what happens in
some parks due to human interference and natural occurrences. Gob also
introduces the family to some of the animals and explains how they suffer
through deforestation, tornados, and storms. In this story Iris comes to age
by using what she learns from Gob to defend the forest.

Since the 1400s, folklore has described gnomes as guardians of treasure and
the protectors of Earth. Gnomes represent stability, growth, and good luck.
This is the second book of the six-book series about Gob the Gnome. The six
books in this series all revolve around Gob, the protector of a local
forest, who becomes friends with Nathan and Iris and helps to educate them

The Surfers

It was a hot day–the last of many, and the sun beat mercilessly upon the sea. For days, the sea grew smaller, and the meek little fish clung to each other in pregnant fear as the salt crystallized upon the shores. At last, the final drop of sanctuary vanished, and they gulped stringent air into their feeble lungs.

“How refreshing!” the ray cried, even as the tears evaporated on his cheeks.

“Yes, quite lovely out here,” echoed the sturgeon, as his body convulsed through the pain.

The minnows grew legs and walked upon the desert, as the virgin flesh on their feet burned away. “But why?” they chorused, and the older ones shushed them, already forgetting the coolness of the deep.

The light unveiled their scaliness; more pungent grew their smells, and they became ashamed.

“The catfish,” they whispered, “is fishier than we.” And so, with vacant faces, they killed him. At night, they used his body as a pyre and huddled around his warmth, the smell of blood titillating foul, dark places unknown. In the morning, they wept, missing the hearty sound of his laughter.

The carp drew away from the safety of the bed. Wandering into the forest, he found the carcass of a turtle. Discovering the armor fit just fine, he carried the shell on his back, admiring the newness of his fortitude. “I’m a turtle!” he cried, and a crowd of hungry crows swooped in, searching for a reptilian snack.

They tossed him in his newfound shell, jeering and shrieking wildly as he begged them to understand. They pulled his scales off one-by-one and, satisfied, abandoned their carefree game.

Blind and naked, he lay dying, whispering to indifferent trees, “I was just pretending.”

Two whales, longing for home, found solace in a puddle while commiserating grief began a tango of obsession.

Her love for him was a toxic obesity–seeking only to consume–and finally satiated, pulled away, repulsed at the smell of leftovers.

He slithered through the mud of validation and became, once more, a shadow of himself. His sweet words whispered, “I hate you,” but she was just a vessel, floundering to tame the wild boar of his self-derision.

The moment was brief. These two were destined to dance, as always. His hatred denied and delighted her; her contagion nearly nourished his void. And the bitter dancers fell into the fullness of plastic arms, wondering who’s to blame.

A darkness settled. Coldness brought conception–the first of many children born into a strange land, and they smothered the small ones with hopefulness and poisoned their brothers with desperate expectation.

Still, the starfish was silent. Years ago, he saw them there–hungry and hopeless–crying for affection and turning on each other with the slightest kiss. On the breeze, he murmured, “Swim,” in dyspeptic disillusionment, and the waves of remembrance crested in the wombs of their consciousness.

The swordfish joined the starfish, jealous to his cause. “Swim,” he echoed, nodding, and the sounds of distant surf grew louder as they tumbled, chanting down the dunes.

“Swim how?” the old ones cackled.

And, softer still, he insisted, sweetly, “…swim.”

One-by-one, they joined them, practicing their strokes for promises to come, and the proud mocked their buoyancy. Blood was spilled upon the sand to affirm the worthiness of the few. Some surfed because of loneliness–others, to assuage a perpetration, but the motives lost their meaning.

What remained was hope among the wasteland. And one day, though none of them believed it, the rains did come–washing them in violent promises and destroying their emptiness with the beauty of change. The ones who survived would forget the names and the morals of their tales, but forever remember the pain of what it felt like to breathe.
