“The Boots Rain” was born as a poem and remains so in this newly
minted Book One of Kelly Anne Manuel’s Rainbow’s End Series.

In this story the Child is invited on a journey to experience an entirely
new event that the narrator is so eager to share. The narrator describes
this fictitious occurrence with such wonder, amazement and vigor, that the
Child will naturally join in for the fun.

“The Boots Rain” offers a standing invitation to the Child.
Journey to the tail of a rainbow’s end and see what fantastical adventures
await. In “The Boots Rain” the Child will experience a fun and
unique way to look at rain in a different light.

The story is meant to be a challenge to the regular idea of rain boots and
the author hopes to spark curiosity and discussion. The simple words take on
new meaning as the illustrations pair perfectly with their presentation.

The illustrations lead the way to an adventure where considering a
different approach to a common event in nature is expected. The Child’s
imagination will be ignited with possibilities as all manner of images leap
off the page. Children are naturally able to imagine events that are
characteristic of a playful youth.

Why not join the narrator on a discovery mission to find out exactly what a
Boots Rain is? In this story the author invites the Child to actively engage
in flexing their imagination muscle while visually stimulated with color,
rainbows, and even a unicorn. It is in Early Childhood that futures are
being constructed.

“The Boots Rain” is a tool in a Caregiver’s toolbox to assist
with that healthy formation. The idea that every boot that falls in the
Boots Rain is unique, individual and one of a kind, is an important message
that the author wants to relay.

The Child who reads this book will be rewarded with a fantastical insight
to what magical events occur at the tail of a rainbow’s end.

North Carolina Simon hates her name. As a fourteen-year-old girl growing up

autism diagnosis. After a humiliating middle school event shatters her
confidence as a singer, North determines to break free from the stigma
surrounding her family.

As she starts high school, North tells people to call her Carol. Armed with
a new name, she updates her appearance, befriends a popular boy in hopes of
joining his band, distances herself from her two longtime friends, and
avoids being seen with her adoring and dependent sister. Everything seems to
be going according to plan until her sister suddenly disappears. Carol is
forced to face reality. Should she continue to focus all her time and energy
on fitting in or should she surrender to God’s calling on her life?

Finding True North is a prequel to Sticks and Stones, but each can be read

North Carolina Simon – May 1974

Chapter 1

After the three-mile trek home from Sage Hill Middle School in the near ninety-degree heat, I stood at the edge of our walkway and wished I felt relieved to be home. The house looked like nearly every other one in the west valley suburbs of Los Angeles. The mowed lawn, a couple rose bushes, and a white picket fence with a creaky gate made it appear so nice and normal, but I knew the inside told a very different story.

I took a deep breath before I opened the front door, hoping the scent of the roses would stick with me when I entered. I could hear the television blasting, and above that my older sister Aria cawing. Yes, cawing, like a crow, one of her new favorite birds. When a baby crow recently fell from its nest into our yard, she was amazed by the tender care its mother gave it. On the day that baby crow flew away, she stared out the window and said, “I used to think crows were sort of noisy and annoying, but they’re so special. That mama crow never gave up on her baby.”

I hoped she’d find a new bird to mimic soon, one with a sweeter sound, but once she had a favorite, it usually stayed in her rotation of sounds for a while.

The door stopped short, blocked by a stack of newspapers, magazines and books in the way. I waited to see how long it might take my mother, Belinda Simon, to notice me. Surrounded by bottles of oil paint, she was deeply focused on a large canvas, a paintbrush in her hand.

Aria noticed me first. “North! You’re home!” She ran over to me, her arms outstretched, flapping them like wings. “Caw!” She cried one last time as she jumped in front of me and closed her arms around me in a tight hug. “How was your day?” she said without loosening her hold.

No matter how bad my day was, this welcome from my big sister always made me smile. As I hugged her, I heard the television blast another unpleasant headline. “A shootout at a home in south Los Angeles. We’ll take you live to the scene after the commercial break.” I thought about how much happier people would be with an Aria in their life. All their anger might melt away long enough to stop all their useless violence.

Lady Lydia Clifton must escape a brutal forced marriage and she must get
out of England however she can, but Valkin Brishen, King of the Romany
stands in her way, and he means to unravel why she is on the run, and why
she’s pretending to be his mistress.

NO ONE TOUCHES THE KING’S MISTRESS

Thrown to the wolves by her father, Lady Lydia Clifton faces a forced
marriage and all the brutality that comes with the Earl of Basingstoke. She
must flee and has only one way out of England: disguise herself as Martha
Dale, mistress to the Romany king.

Lydia knows her brother Wil became estranged from their family and all of
English aristocracy because he fell in love with a Romany woman. That makes
this white lie more potent, as it offers the kind of protection that just
might keep her safe.

Despite her reputation being in tatters, all Lydia needs to do is to make
it to France, and into the care of her oldest brother, Roger.

King Valkin Brishen is fully aware lies and subterfuge can and has brought
harm to his people, yet when his men find a lovely English maid on the run
who claims to be his mistress, anger battles with more than curiosity over
exactly why this English rose is fleeing with such haste.

Her flight speaks of courage, but her deceit could put his people in
peril.

And more, he wonders if it’s worth the risk to his heart if he takes her
under his protection.

About the Author

Misun Hifumi,

I was born in Seoul, Korea in 1971.  As the youngest of the family,
with an older sister and two older brothers, I was surrounded by comfort,
support, and most of all, love.

As a child, I loved spending time in my own world of imagination, where I
had the ability to create my friends, experiences, and
“realities.” These were always preferable to the true reality
that surrounded me.

Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s, Korea was still recovering from its long
history of military dictatorship after the Korean war and still experiencing
the turmoil of political upheaval. It was simply too chaotic and harsh for a
free-spirited young mind.
