Romance

Peter Danahay is a playboy. Peter Danahay is a commitment-phobe. Peter
Danahay is the last person I would ever consider as a lifelong partner.
He’s a philanderer, the kind of guy my mother would’ve warned me
about and my dad would’ve stopped me from dating. Trouble is written
all over his face, yet women can’t seem to resist him.

I’m ashamed to admit it, but I, too, was unable to resist the
alluring charm of Peter Danahay. I fell hard, and I fell
fast…straight into bed with him. It was just supposed to be a
one-night stand, a quick roll in the sack. A day that was filled with verbal
jabs and little white lies led to an amazing night filled with unbridled
passion.

We were never supposed to see each other again, but Fate had other plans.
One minute I’m trying to get my life back on track, and the next I get
a curve ball thrown at me at supersonic speed. Two pink lines change our
lives, and now Peter Danahay is going to be my lifelong partner, whether we
like it or not.

Maybe we can make it work…that is until those little white lies
fester into something that isn’t so little anymore.

Poetry

Date Published: May 21, 2024

Publisher: Holy Cow! Press

A poet and female commander in the Israeli Defense Forces creates an
original perspective from the war-torn front lines of the Middle East
conflict.

The Dove That Didn’t Return tackles the canon of war poetry, an
almost exclusively male-penned body of poems. In the book, biblical stories,
verses, and fragments are rewritten through the eyes of a female lieutenant
in the Israeli Army. It is a contemporary poetics on the revelations of war
from an Israeli perspective never before told—a woman, and a soldier
at that.

This debut full-length collection follows upon the publication of her
critically acclaimed chapbook, Between Sanctity and Sand, from Finishing
Line Press.

BETWEEN SANCTITY AND SAND

The first time I shot an M-16

it was the heat of summer in the Negev.

Gas-operated with a rotating bolt, five-point-fifty-

six caliber, with nineteen bullets a box.

I could shoot like an angel.

I could hit a running target

at six-hundred-fifty meters.

I hummed to myself as I shot,

I was eighteen.

The retama flower of my hair-bun drawn back tight

blooming, sprouting open with every green round.

Publisher: Shadow Spark Publishing

Surfside City, New Jersey. 1966. Cub reporter Harman Bass is cutting his
teeth in the fast world of local journalism and getting out-scooped by the
competition. Facetious, cocky, and always quoting Nietzsche, Harman
isn’t making any friends both in and out of the newsroom.

All that changes when the daughter of a prominent family is found dead on
the beach, handing Harman the juiciest news story of the year. But she
wasn’t any old beauty pageant queen; she was his high school
girlfriend. Harman’s dogged reporting into the young woman’s
death reveals pushback from the authorities and pulls the newshound into the
resort’s darkest corners.

After one of his sources is murdered, the routine story becomes dangerous
and personal. Something watches Harman from the shadows, something ancient
and hungry, worshipped by powerful men who kill to keep their secrets.
Harman’s job and life are soon threatened, and the once brash reporter
must battle his boss, rival journalists, and his own sanity before filing
what could be his last story.

THE OCEAN HUGS HARD is a mystery with the salty whiff of the ocean, a tinge
of nostalgia, and a dollop of mind-shattering eldritch horror.

Romantic Moments, Book 5

Paranormal Romance

Date Published: 06-01-2024

Kai – Once upon a time, my kind were protectors, but the modern world
doesn’t believe in legends, so I cruise the oceans, happily single
with no responsibility. During a storm at sea, I rescue an irresistible
woman and get dragged into a battle with a crazy cousin who has developed a
taste for selkies.

Ivy – When I left home to escape an arranged marriage to the leader
of our selkie harem, I didn’t expect to be caught in a storm and
hauled aboard an old tub by a gorgeous guy. Kai is everything I want, but
when I return home to tie up loose ends, I find a killer hunting my people.
We selkies learn fast that to kill a shark, it takes a shark.

Excerpt

The seal fights its way closer to the boat. I’m about to dive in
after it when it reaches the edge. Grabbing a coil of rope, I toss it
overboard. The seal shifts to a blond woman. She clings to my line.

Grunting, I haul her up, fighting wind and water, until she lands, naked
and panting on my deck.

“Hey are you okay?” I kneel beside her. Still breathing hard, she
lifts her gaze to mine and nods. I’m momentarily stunned. She has the most
amazing green eyes I’ve ever seen, not to mention a gorgeous body. Muscles,
generous curves, long legs. If we weren’t in the middle of a storm, I’d be
slack-jawed, but right now my main concern is to keep us afloat. Not that I
couldn’t survive in the open sea, even in a storm, but I’ve gotten attached
to this boat and I’d rather not lose it.

“Come on. I have clothes you can put on.”

We stand and the ship lurches. I reach out to steady her, but her sea legs
are just as good as mine. Not shocking, considering what she is.

I glance off to the side. Another giant wave rises and in it, I glimpse a
big, dark silhouette with glowing amber eyes. It’s gone in seconds.

“What’s wrong?” asks my unexpected guest.

“I thought I saw something, that’s all.”

EXCERPT

I think the body gives the mind the ammunition for the mind to give back to the body the force. And today, for the first time, that ammunition is absent. There is nothing left in the arsenal. All the weapons have been exhausted. It is not that I have given up but more accurately that I am no longer allowed to participate. There is a difference, a big difference, but probably one that can be truly understood only by my fellow dying patients. And they are not going to be around much longer to testify.

Knowing that changes everything. A certain tranquility now lies before me, which is somewhat comforting in a strange and paradoxical way. I have lost some fights before, but this time there will be no second chance. No opportunity to amend the results. No strategy to overcome the obstacle in some ingenious or herculean way. No rematch. I don’t have to perform any more and be held accountable to my increasingly unattainable standards. The pressure is off. My fate is sealed. The ultimate defeat lies before me, and I feel both anxious and curious about what lies ahead.

I am searching for a way not to feel that I’ve been beaten, to view my earthly demise in more spiritual terms. Certainly, it can’t be worse than my existence now, and I pray it will be a whole lot better. But although I feel somewhat prepared, I am still uncertain about the timing. Will it happen this very minute, or in an hour, or even in a day?

I am not fearful any longer, but I don’t want panic to creep back in at the moment of truth. I want to relax and go out with some semblance of dignity and pride. Will I have any control at the very, very end or just become a prisoner to my relentless captor? To what degree can I define any portion of my journey? I would like to simply ease into my death and be carried away in its decisive beauty. I hope I’m not completely alone when it occurs, for that would be both daunting and dispiriting. Death can make a person feel so uncomfortably vulnerable.

There can be no more isolating feeling in the world than dying.
