REVIEW – OWL AND THE CITY OF ANGELS BY KRISTI CHARISH

The wild second adventure for unforgettable antiquities thief Owl—a modern-day “Indiana Jane” who reluctantly navigates the hidden supernatural world—from the pen of rising urban fantasy star Kristi Charish. For fans of Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher, Jennifer Estep, Jenn Bennett, and the like.

Alix Hiboux, better known as Owl, international antiquities thief for hire, is settling into her new contract job for Vegas mogul Mr. Kurosawa, a red dragon with a penchant for ancient, supernatural artifacts. And now he has his sights set on some treasures of the mysterious Syrian City of the Dead that are sitting in a recluse’s private collection.

There’s just one wrinkle. To stop the resurrection of an undead army that could wreak havoc on Los Angeles, Owl must break into a heavily guarded archaeological sight in one of the most volatile regions in the world. A detour through Libya and a run-in with Somali pirates sends the clock ticking hastily toward total paranormal disaster.

Meanwhile, Alexander and the Paris vampires have stopped stalking Owl’s apartment, but they have by no means forgotten their death grudge against her. To top everything off, Owl finds out the hard way that there is nothing heavenly about the City of Angels..

OWL AND THE CITY OF ANGELS just gets better, and better. The characters and story line are very well-developed. Owl is in trouble again. The IAA is after her for stealing several artifacts, but there is one catch, she did not do it. Yes, she stole a few, but not the ones they are accusing her for. She escapes Egypt and is determined to find who is out there stealing artifact in her name. After careful research they trace it back to the city of the dead. Someone is stealing cursed artifacts and selling them. Now, Owl must return those artifacts. During one of her retrievals, she accidentally touches one of the artifacts and is cursed. Now the clock is ticking and she must find a way to lift the curse or die. Oh, and she has to stop the people stealing the artifacts also. I love this series!! It is like Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider all in one. I also love her cat Captain, he steals the show. If you have not picked up the first book in this series, I really urge you to do so. You will love it. I give OWL AND THE CITY OF ANGELS 5/5 STARS.

Run as fast as you can, little mouse, because this cat loves to chase–and pounce.

Oh, and he also likes to nibble on tender bits. What he doesn’t expect is to fall for a human woman, a woman who can make the impossible happen because everyone knows lions can’t purr…until now.

WHEN AN ALPHA PURRS is a Purrrrfect start to a new series. From the first chapter the antics of Arik and Kira had me laughing. Arik is the Alpha of his Pride, and he is also very vain about his hair. When he goes to get his hair cut, his barber, is out-of-town and he cannot wait until he comes back. He demands Kira to cut his hair, when she is cutting his hair, she  lops off a larger piece. This leaves a gap in his hair.  She flees his wrath, and he follows. He senses that she is his mate. He looses her and goes to the office with a hat on. He goes back later and asks her nicely to correct the mistake. She does it because she feels bad that she did that to one of her grandfather’s clients. He is even better looking with shorter hair. When he asks her to dine with him that evening she tries to leave town. He catches her and takes her out anyway. When he takes her back to her apartment above the shop, he smell a wolf has recently been there. There was also written on the wall of the shop a warning for Kira. She lets Arik know that she left because of an ex-boyfriend who became obsessed with her, and was abusive. Now he has followed her here. Arik must keep Kira safe all the while trying to neutralize the threat to her. The antics of the other pride members, especially the females of the pride, will have you laughing out loud. I love Eve Langlais’ books. I give WHEN AN ALPHA PURRS 5/5 STARS.

UNBLOCKED (EPISODE FIVE) is the thrilling conclusion of this great series. Marni Mann is a master storyteller! Frankie and Derek’s relationship is getting hotter and hotter. I love these two characters and the chemistry between the two. Secrets will be revealed and the past will be put to rest. Derek thinking that his past will tear him and Frankie apart, only makes their relationship stronger. If you have not started this series, I urge you to do so. The characters and the story line is well-developed and a romantic masterpiece. I hate to see the series end, but I know that Marni Mann will have something great in store for us next. You will enjoy this book like I did, and pick it up as soon as it is released. I give UNBLOCKED (EPISODE FIVE) 5/5 STARS.

REVIEW- WISH BOUND( A GRIMM AGENCY NOVEL) BY J.C. NELSON

From the author of Armageddon Rules, the fanciful and fun continuation of the Grimm Agency novels…

As a partner at Grimm’s magical Agency, Marissa Locks is used to working odd jobs. But when an evil queen reappears in Kingdom, life becomes too strange to handle…

Even when she’s not starting it, trouble follows Marissa everywhere. First there was the incident with the homicidal Fairy Godmother. Then there was the time she accidentally started Armageddon. But the problems that always seem to arise on Marissa’s birthday take the cake.

This year, her annual bad-luck presents include an army of invading goblins, the resurrection of two vengeful enemies from hell, and the return of the Black Queen, the evil sorceress whose reign of terror still haunts Kingdom and who happens to have claimed Marissa as her servant.

As Marissa’s friends try to save her from the Black Queen’s clutches, Marissa fights to end a bitter war that started before her birth. But her quest for peace is about to bring up some inconvenient truths about her own past—ones that might cost her the happily ever after she’s always dreamed of…

WISH BOUND is a whirlwind of action.  The characters and the story line are well-developed. It is Marissa’s birthday and anytime she is thrown a party and cake is involved bad things happen. So, she tries to avoid her birthday at all cost. When a routine mission brings her face to face with the Black Queen, she cannot say no to becoming her handmaiden. Everyone around her is in trouble, if she cannot stop the Black Queen. If she can stop an Armageddon, she should be able to stop her. This is such a great story! Marissa has grown so much since the series has first started, and her snarky comments are great. In this story also she will find out something about her background that will change everything that she thought she knew about herself. I cannot wait for more of Marissa. I give WISH BOUND 5/5 STARS, and recommend it to everyone.

REVIEW- PLAYING WITH FIRE BY KATE MEADER

playing with fire
From popular romance author Kate Meader comes the second novel in Hot in Chicago, a brand-new, sizzling series that follows a group of firefighting foster siblings and their blazing hot love interests!

As the only female firefighter at Engine Co. 6, Alexandra Dempsey gets it from all sides: the male coworkers who think she can’t do the job, the wives and girlfriends who see her as a threat to their firefighter men, and her overprotective foster brothers who want to shelter their baby sister at all costs. So when she single-handedly saves the life of Eli Cooper, Chicago’s devastatingly handsome mayor, she assumes the respect she’s longed for will finally come her way. But it seems Mr. Mayor has other ideas…

Eli Cooper’s mayoral ratings are plummeting, his chances at reelection dead in the water. When a sexy, curvaceous firefighter gives him the kiss of life, she does more than bring him back to the land of the living—she also breathes vitality into his campaign. Riding the wave of their feel-good story might prop up Eli’s flagging political fortunes, but the sizzling attraction between them can go nowhere; he’s her boss, and there are rules that must be obeyed. But you know what they say about rules: they’re made to be broken…

PLAYING WITH FIRE is a red-hot read. The characters and story line are well-developed. Alexandra is the only female firefighter at Engine Co. 6, last year she was in the news when she cut up a mans very expensive car. She is now in the news again when she saves the Mayor, Eli Cooper. Alexandra has this idea that Eli does not like women to be a firefighter, when the opposite is true. He knows Alexandra is a capable woman and able to do anything a man can. When they are thrown together, things get hot and heavy between them. They are playing with fire and have to try to not get burned. I loved the banter between these two characters, and the sexual tension is just very hot. I cannot wait to see what Kate Meader has in store for us in the next book. She is one Author to watch out for. I give PLAYING WITH FIRE 5/5 STARS, and I recommend this book and series to everyone.
