BOOK REVIEW – DRAGON ON TOP BY G.A. AIKEN

dragon on top
I am Glheanna the Decimator. I am a warrior. A soldier. I know no fear. No pain. No mercy. I do, however, know acute embarrassment! How could I not after getting dumped by a bastard dragon in front of my own troops? So I tuck tail and return to my cave, drowning my sorrows in ale—as is my family’s way. But instead of leaving me to my misery, I’ve been summoned to the Dragon Queen’s court.

As if my life wasn’t pathetic enough, Her Majesty now has me escorting the highborn Bram the Merciful through dangerous territories—not exactly the best use of my military training. And just so he can negotiate with enemy dragons instead of battling them? Honestly, what has my world come to? Then again…Bram is quite easy on the eyes. And the perfect distraction for what ails me. Perhaps I’m looking at all this the wrong way. Maybe there is a place for a little “mercy” in my life…

Previously published in Supernatural.

DRAGON ON TOP is a laugh-out-loud, great read. Bram is the quiet scholarly type in a family of boisterous dragons. He has loved Glheanna for a long time, but he didn’t think she would go for a dragon like him. Now the Queen has assigned Glhenna to go with Bram to negotiate a contract between the Lightning dragons. They are ambushed by a group that does not want this meeting to take place. Glhenna is mortally wounded and he has to get her help, and the only one he can think of is the Sea dragons. Now they are trapped in the sea,  while Glhenna heals and they get very close. They find out that they are meant to be together  and nothing will get in the way. This book will have you laughing like all the other books by G.A. Aiken. She always delivers a great read. I want to be part of the Cadwaladr clan, they are a lot like my family. I love my family, and I love this family. They always bring a smile to my face. DRAGON ON TOP is a great book and I recommend this book and series to everyone and I give it 5/5 stars.

REVIEW – DARK HEART OF MAGIC BY JENNIFER ESTEP

DARK HEART OF MAGIC
“Jennifer Estep is a genius!” –Simply Nerdy

Something Wicked This Way Comes . . .

As a thief, I stick to the shadows as much as possible. But when the head of the Sinclair Family picks me to compete in the Tournament of Blades, there’s no escaping the spotlight–or the danger.

Even though he’s my competition, Devon Sinclair thinks I have the best shot at winning what’s supposed to be a friendly contest. But when the competitors start having mysterious “accidents,” it looks like someone will do anything to win–no matter who they hurt.

As if I didn’t have enough to worry about, mobster Victor Draconi is plotting against Devon and the rest of my friends, and someone’s going around Cloudburst Falls murdering monsters. One thing’s for sure. Sometimes, humans can be more monstrous than anything else…

DARK HEART OF MAGIC is an exciting YA urban fantasy. I love the character of Lila! She is a kick-ass character, who knows what she needs to do and gets it done. All the characters are well-developed and the story line is also well-developed. Something or someone is spooking the tree trolls and are driving them into town. While trying to figure this out, Lila has been chosen by the Sinclair family to compete in the Tournament of Blades. While competing in the tournament, someone is sabotaging the tournament. Now, Lila has to find out who is doing this, even though she has an idea who is behind it. Lila will find out some truths about her past that she was wondering about. This is such a great novel, and I recommend it to everyone. I give DARK HEART OF MAGIC 5/5 STARS.

BOOK REVIEW- THE VAGABOND VICAR BY CHARLOTTE BRENTWOOD

THE VAGABOND VICAR
All William wanted was to save the world. Now he cannot even save himself.

William Brook is an idealistic young cleric, desperate to escape dreary England for a mission adventure in exotic lands. It’s his worst nightmare come true when he is posted to a parish in a tiny backwater village, populated with small-minded people and husband-hunting mamas. He’s determined not to form any ties and to escape the country as an independent single man.

A free spirit, Cecilia Grant is perfectly content to remain in her family home in Amberley village – when she’s not wandering the countryside at all hours painting. Marriage options are few, but that won’t stop her mother from engineering a match with one of the ruling family’s sons. Cecilia attempts to win the man, but what is it about the new vicar and his brooding ways that is so appealing? Could he be the only one who has ever really understood her, and can she discover what he is running away from?

As William struggles not to fall in love with the lady’s intoxicating beauty and mysterious eccentricity, he finds himself drawn into the lives of the villagers, despite their best efforts to alienate the newcomer. When he makes it clear he’s not sticking around, Cecilia strives to restrain her blossoming feelings for him. Just when it seems love may triumph, dark secrets are revealed in Amberley and a scandal from William’s past may see the end of not only his career, but his chance at finding an everlasting love.

The Vagabond Vicar is an unashamedly romantic historical novel you’ll fall in love with. If you love Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer, can’t get enough of Downton Abbey or Cranford, or just prefer old-fashioned boy-meets-girl stories, try reading Charlotte Brentwood. Fans of traditional regency romance or clean historical romance won’t be disappointed.

Sensuality level: sweet,clean (only kissing)
Please note, although there is some mention of religious subject matter due to the hero’s occupation, this is not an “inspirational” novel.

William wants to leave England and spread the word of God, but he is sent to a town to replace the Vicar who has passed away. He meets Cecilia and is thoroughly smitten. Cecilia loves to escape the house and paint in the outdoors. As Cecilia and William grow closer, William decides that he does not need to escape England to spread God’s word. He has everything he needs here with Cecilia . REVIEW- AWAKENIG (THE DARK RITUALS, BOOK #1) BY CATRINA BURGESS

awakening
In Awakening, the first installment in the Dark Rituals series, a former healer turns to the Death Arts to seek revenge.

Seventeen-year-old Colina was born a healer. But after a horrific event forces her to leave her clan, she becomes desperate to learn the dark magic of the death dealers, mages who draw their power from the spirits of the dead. Colina was taught to fear and hate death dealers, but becoming one of them is the only way for her to get the revenge she seeks—and the only way for her to survive.

Colina asks a young death dealer named Luke to help her, but he’s reluctant to train her in the Death Arts. Little does she know convincing him to teach her will be the easiest part of her journey. To become a death dealer, Colina will need to undergo three dark rituals, each more terrifying than the last. At the same time, she’ll have to deal with her growing feelings for her mentor. Too bad the first ritual involves him strangling her to death.

As Colina undergoes the trials, she discovers an untapped darkness within herself. If she survives the horrific rituals and gains dark power, what will she become?

Catrina Burgess’ Dark Rituals series originally appeared on Wattpad with over three million reads. Awakening is the first book of four and was named Wattpad’s Best Suspense Story of 2014.

When I first heard about AWAKENING (DARK RITUALS, BOOK#1)  was through my Nephew. He had read the story on Wattpad and told me I had to read it. So, when it became available on Netgalley, I decided it was time to read it. I am glad I did! Catrina Burgess has a hit, and she is an Author to watch out for. The characters and story line are very well-developed. Colina watched her family being killed and now she could be next. Her family is part of the healers, but now Colina wants to learn to be a Death dealer. Death dealers are the most feared in  the caste system, for they can control the spirits of the dead. Now Colina needs to learn how to become a Death dealer so she can get revenge for her families death, but she finds out there is more to the killings that she thought. Her family was part of a dark ritual to release a demon. As Colina completes the three rituals to become a Death dealer she finds out that she can do things that no other Death dealer can do. Is this because she was a Healer, or is something darker going on? This is such a great dark mystery, and I recommend it to everyone. I give AWAKENING (DARK RITUALS, BOOK#1) 5/5 STARS.

REVIEW- WHEN AN OMEGA SNAPS BY EVE LANGLAIS

Losing control is unheard of until he meets her.

Leo is the calm guy. The nice guy. The one nobody screws with. So could someone explain that to Meena so she stops driving him insane–with desire.

When Meena literally throws herself at Leo and declares he’s her mate, his first reaction is to deny–and run far, far away. This lion/tiger mix doesn’t do drama and chaos. Problem is, once he sets eyes on her, he can’t help but want the vivacious blonde with plus-sized curves, perfect for a big man like himself.

He wants her even if it breaks all his rules when it comes to women.
Wants her even if she destroys his serenity.
Wants her more than a perfectly grilled piece of steak with a dash of garlic, pepper, and salt.

Thing is, someone else wants her too.

This poor omega is about to have his world turned upside down, which means everyone better watch out because when Leo experiences love, jealousy, and frustration for the first time, he doesn’t just snap–he roars!

WHEN AN OMEGA SNAPS is my favorite in this series! Leo is the Omega of the Pride, and this means he is able to calm others down when they get angry. Even if he has to punch them. This seems to be his method of choice, because it is faster and he doesn’t have to talk much. When Meena is banished from her Pride and sent to Arik’s Pride until everything settles down, Leo is about to have his quiet world shaken up. When she sees Leo she deliberately misses the Frisbee and hits Leo in the head. When she goes to pick it up, she lets Leo know that he is her mate. Well, Leo does not want a mate. For to have one, especially her will create havoc in his nice quiet world. When she is in danger of being kidnapped, he can no longer fight the desire of his mate. he must claim her to so the kidnapper will quite pursuing his mate. Meena has always been teased about her size, and has hurt other men that she has dated because of it. With Leo he can handle her just right. This is such a fun laugh out load book that had me almost falling out of my chair when reading it. I give WHEN AN OMEGA ROARS 5/5 STARS.
