Everyone deserves one last goodbye.

The Last Goodbye - The Beginning cover

As far back as Grace Carter could remember, she’d been able to communicate with the deceased. Of course, working in her family’s mortuary put her in constant contact with those who had crossed over, if she didn’t take steps to block them out, which she preferred to do. However, some spirits are stronger than others…

Nora Campbell had nearly been ready to die, but she still had some unfinished business. From the other side, she found the woman she wanted her grandson to fall in love with, and she put her matchmaking plan in motion. Nora was insistent that Grace get a message to her grandson, TV reporter Matthew Campbell, and together they could pass on the last goodbyes of those who had passed.

Only now Grace must convince Matthew she is in touch with his grandmother and not some crazy woman who spends all her time with the deceased.

Snippet:
After the last visitor had gone, and the family had each hugged one another and said their goodbyes, Grace walked into the room where Nora rested peacefully.
“Do I know how to throw a party or what?” Nora’s voice filled Grace’s ears.
“You are very loved.”
“Eh, I saw a few gawkers in here. That lady that lived across the street from me, she never once spoke to me. I’m sure she just wanted to make sure I was dead so she could buy my house.”
“What a horrible thought.”
“I had lots of friends,” Nora’s voice said only to Grace. “But I had my share of enemies. You don’t get this old without having pissed off a few people.”
Grace laughed as she approached the casket and adjusted the bumblebee to fly just as Nora had asked her to position it. Someone must’ve touched it. That was no surprise.
“I spoke to Matthew about the rosebush. He knows his sister would love to have one. I think he will make sure that it happens.”
“I’m sure he will. He is a doer, that grandson of mine.”
“I see that in him,” Grace said as she moved to pick up a few empty water bottles that had been left on the table. “You’ll also be pleased to know that I’m going to have lunch with him.”
Grace heard the approving hum. “So, you asked him?”
“Actually, he asked me. It’s a business lunch. He wants to do a story on some of the families who visit the cemetery. He asked me to meet with him to discuss it.”
“I’ll take it. You’re a nice girl. I’d like to see him settle down with someone like you.”
