Hello everyone!. I thought I would give you just a quick update. Grandma has over 50% swallowing, so they are letting her have some jello I think or it might be applesauce. The first day I heard about this she had 50% and they said they would let her try some jello to see how she would do. Then the next day was a little more and I heard something about applesauce. I am not quite sure. Also, today my uncle called my grandmothers name, and I guess she was asleep, and it sounded like my uncle was in distress so she whipped her head around real fast. Almost all the way to the left, everyone saw this, even the nurses, they went whoa, they were a little startled that she could do that. That is some improvement.
Also when Health South releases Grandma we are having her put into Manor Park to continue her therapy. This will also give us time to get the house ready for her, for when she is ready to come home. We want her to have as much physical therapy that she can get, that way she will be able to do more for herself when she does come home. She is a strong, proud woman, and this will get her back on her feet, and not have to depend on us as much. She was already having to depend on us because of her not being able to see very well. I was helping to balance her checkbook, and pay her bills, mom, and my uncle was taking her to doctor appointments and to the store. Now this it will be too much if she can’t do for herself when she gets home. So we are making sure she has all the physical therapy that she needs before she gets home.
If she needs some additional once she is home we will make sure she has that also. We are just happy and blessed that she is still with us. She is our Christmas Miracle. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone
Well I started my first day back to work, and I wish I was still on leave. They changed my schedule, I no longer go in at 5am. Which really sucks! I also no longer work on the lunch meat wall, because of my restriction that I cannot lift anything over 20 pounds. So now they put me in photolab which ended up making me lose 20 cents an hour, because it is a different level of pay. So yesterday, I get to work thinking that I would have to do training CBL‘s, then do some training on the ales floor.
Nope, they had me in toys helping out all day. I did no lifting. I put up returns, zoned the shelves, and picked up any stray merchandise off the floor, and merchandise that did not belong in the department. I did not like doing this. I would have rather took my chances putting stock up on my lunch meat wall. After working in toys for about 2 hours my back as killing me. I had to take a pin killer at lunch, which was at 1:35pm, just so I could finish the day. My knee and back was killing me. I guess we will see how long this will last. I did tell them that I could not sit or stand for long periods without being in pain because of chronic back pain.
We see how well they listened to me. If toys hurt my back an knee, and that was a lot of walking, bending, kneeling. We will see what a lot of standing will do. I already know. Excruciating pain!!!!!! I BETTER FINISH GETTING READY FOR WORK. I ALSO HAVE PHYSICAL THERAPY I HAVE TO GO TO TODAY ON MY LUNCH BREAK, THEN BACK TO WORK. JOY, JOY ,JOY,!!!!
Well it seems that I will start back to work next week. I have been cleared by the Doctor to return to work with restrictions that I don’t lift anything over 20 pounds. I also have some vacation time I need to use before February or I lose it. So, I might take that before I actually go back so I don’t have to stop and start again. I have to go back and talk to them tomorrow. They are trying to find a place for me within the lifting restrictions, since I cannot lift over 20 pounds and I cannot sit or stand for long periods of time. They also have to find something that will be flexible around my availability and my physical therapy.
I know I have to go back so I can get a full paycheck, but I am not looking forward to all the drama at work. Hopefully I will get my morning schedule back. I loved working the 5am-2pm shift, it was the perfect shift in which I still had the afternoon to get what I needed done. I can just hope. I have to get ready for bed so I can get up for physical therapy tomorrow at 8:30 am. Goodnight.
I was just letting everyone know a quick update on my Grandmother. She passed out during her physical therapy session today, but she is fine. She was just dehydrated, and they hooked an I.V. up to her to replenish her fluids. My mom and me were talking about this the other day that she was not getting enough nutrients through her feeding tube. She is still having trouble swallowing so she is not able to have liquids by mouth so she is not able to replenish her fluids like she should after her rehab sessions.
It really was only a matter of tome before this happened. It was during the session when they were helping her walk and she passed out. The guy behind her was able to keep her upright and get her in a chair. The y called the ambulance and a doctor checked her out and she was o.k.. She is still at Health South Rehab Center. The doctor thought it best to keep her there and just hook up an I.V. and just monitor her there. Otherwise she is doing very well on rehab. She is still having trouble with her left arm, but she was complaining that it was hurting and itching. So I believe the nerves are waking up. When I have more to report I will let you know. Thank you for all your prayers.
I just want to give you an update on my Grandmother. She is still doing well, and is as spunky as ever. She is getting where she is talking better. Her heart Doctor showed up last night at about 12 last night. He asked if the other doctor(neurologist) has been in to see her, they told him no. That he has only seen her the once. There was supposed to been a Doctor that was a specialist on bleeding in the brain that was supposed to see her. He has not shown up. I don’t know id the neurologist didn’t call for him, or what.
The family‘s whole opinion on this neurologist is that he has basically has written my Grandmother off, and is just waiting for her to die. Well we have news for him, my Grandmother has a lot of fight in her and she is here to stay. The family definitely having the neurologist removed from her case, and we are going to get him for neglect of my Grandmother. He is not doing anything to help her to get better. The heart Doctor, my Grandmothers heart Doctor, is doing more for her and us than the other doctor. He has put our fears to rest. So once we get the other neurologist looking out for my Grandmother, things should get better. They are going to start her physical therapy back up. They stopped it when they put her in ICU.
I will go for now, but I will write more updates when we receive more. Thank you all for your prayers. They are definitely helping, for we still have her with us. So, now we just have to work on completely getting her well and home.
