Coconut Cream Pie (Photo credit: I Believe I Can Fry)
Hopefully everyone is having a great start to the New Year? We had family over for barbecue, potato salad, black-eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, homemade rolls, cabbage, 3-berry cobbler, and coconut cream pie,(also homemade). We all ate so much that we made ourselves sick. The kids played rock band and did some singing. We watched some movies, and mom took my brother, his wife and my grandfather to see my grandmother. She is almost ready to do some standing, they are also letting her eat some soup and when she does eat they disconnect the feeding tube to see how she does. So far she is doing great. Here lately she has been a pistol, she will let you know what is on her mind.
She did get a bed sore, but the nurse is making sure that it is being taken care of. She doesn’t have the infection anymore , so that is one less thing to worry about. I have started working in the photo lab at work, and I do not like it. I would rather go back to doing back to what I was doing. It is slow and the printing machines are always broken down. It is very frustrating. We are always having customer complaints because of the machines being down and the pictures are not being done. I am getting the hang of the register and the site-to-store part. There is still some things I need to learn, but I don’t like the constant standing. It really makes my knee and back hurt. It is very painful. Some days it is a 2 painkiller day.
I am hoping I can lose the weight that the doctor wants me to lose so that I can have my knee surgery. Now that the holidays are over, I can concentrate on losing the weight. Well I am starting to fall asleep it has been a long day, and I need to take a shower to wash off the smell of smoke from the barbecue pit. I will talk with everyone tomorrow, and have a Happy New Year.
As the holidays get closer, and the stress gets higher we all try to make the perfect holiday for our family. I wonder what everyone else does for their holiday traditions. When I was younger and there was more children around and everyone gathered at Grandma’s house, we would choose names out of a hat and buy a present for that kid. We would celebrate Christmas Eve and exchange presents. Now we spend Christmas Day with my sister and brother and their family. We either have breakfast or lunch together depending how early everyone gets up. We don’t cook anything extravagant. We normally cook soup, chili, or some other meal.
We sit around play games, let the kids play their video games, sing, play guitars, watch movies, just have family time. The holidays are for family’s, not about the material things. If you have family you have everything. I have not even bought one thing for Christmas right now I don’t have the money for it , because of the unexpected medical cost on my knee. Plus having to take off from work and only getting part of my check. To me this year my Christmas gift is that I still have my Grandmother, and that is all that I need. So let me know what you do to celebrate the holidays?
I can’t believe it either. Where has this year gone? Just thinking about it has my head hurting, because not only do I have to buy Christmas . I still have 10 birthdays between now and December to buy for. I have 1 birthday on October 31, Nov, 9,10, 15, 2 on Nov. 19, Dec. 6, 9, 13, 15, then Christmas. I basically stay broke from this time until the new year. I guess that is why my Mom hates the holidays. I am starting to get that Bah humbug feeling, especially now that I know I need knee surgery and the doctor wants to wait until I lose about 50-60 pounds.
That is about how much I lost in about 2 years, so I hope it wont be 2 years before I have knee surgery. I don’t think I can last that long. Maybe with physical therapy starting Monday, that will be my Christmas present, knee surgery. Has anyone started shopping yet for Christmas, or are many of you last-minute shoppers. last year I had most of my shopping just about done, but this year I have not even started shopping. Maybe I will get them all an Amazon gift card and let them get what they want. That way I don’t have to deal with the crowds. I work for a major retailer and it is crazy during the holiday and I try not to shop when I get off work.
I just want to get out of there and get home. For some reason the holidays brings out the worst in people. People who are normally nice the rest of the year are down right witches( you can replace the w with a b ) it is really scary. So I suggest if you don’t want to be part of the scary crowd, start your shopping now, and order online. It will definitely save you some headaches later. I know I will.
