URBAN FANTASY BOOK REVIEW- DEAD SPOTS BY MELISSA F. OLSON

DEAD SPOTS
Book Description
Publication Date: October 30, 2012
Book 1 of the Scarlett Bernard series

Scarlett Bernard knows about personal space: step within ten feet of her, and any supernatural spells or demonic forces are instantly defused—vampires and werewolves become human again, and witches can’t get out so much as a “hocus pocus.” This special skill makes her a null and very valuable to Los Angeles’s three most powerful magical communities, who utilize her ability to scrub crime scenes clean of all traces of the paranormal to keep humanity, and the LAPD, in the dark.

But one night Scarlett’s late arrival to a grisly murder scene reveals her agenda and ends with LAPD’s Jesse Cruz tracking her down to strike a deal: he’ll keep quiet about the undead underworld if she helps solve the case. Their pact doesn’t sit well with Dash, the city’s chief bloodsucker, who fears his whole vampire empire is at stake. And when clues start to point to Scarlett, it’ll take more than her unique powers to catch the real killer and clear her name.

DEAD SPOTS is a great start to this urban fantasy series. I has great character development an world building. It also has a love triangle thrown into the mix. Scarlett is a null, which means that magic does not work around her. When a werewolf is in her bubble they shift back to human if they are in wolf form, and vampires can age, breath and step out into the sun without frying. Jesse Cruz is a cop who just made Detective and came upon the crime scene at the same time as Scarlett. He sees a werewolf in wolf form suddenly turn human again, and when Scarlett leaves the area he turns back into a wolf. Scarlett has to find the murderer or she dies. I cannot wait to read the next book TRAIL OF DEAD. I liked this book and give it 4/5 stars.

CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE BOOK REVIEW: “IT’S IN HIS KISS” BY JILL SHALVIS

It’s in His Kiss    ONE KISS CAN LAST FOREVER
Becca Thorpe has uprooted her life and escaped to the beach. Now’s her chance to get away from city living, throw caution to the ocean winds, and live in the moment. Especially if the moment includes the deliciously sexy surfer she meets shortly after arriving in Lucky Harbor. Something about the dark intensity of Sam’s eyes and the thrill she gets at his touch convinces her to stay awhile.

Boatbuilder and investment genius Sam Brody is a self-made man who knows how dangerous it can be to mix business and pleasure. But he can’t resist offering Becca a job just to hear her laugh and have her near. Yet when her brother comes to town asking for help, will he tempt her back to her glamorous life in the city? Or do Sam and little Lucky Harbor have a chance to win Becca’s heart?

i WAS GIVEN A COPY OF THIS BOOK BY NETGALLEY FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.

IT’S IN HIS KISS is a a sexy, fun read.  Sam and Becca have instant chemistry when they meet, and it just gets stronger.  Sam owns a charter business with his friends Cole and Tanner, that is next door to Becca’s new place.  Becca has an obstructive view of Sam’s butt, I mean Sam and the others. She has been caught a few times and now has the nickname PEEPERS. Becca has come to LUCKY HARBOR  to get away from her family and being her brothers crutch, and a few other secrets. Sam does not know how to let someone into his heart, because his Dad threw around the love word anytime he needed anything. So he never really believed it when someone said it to him. He has to learn to let Becca in his heart and when she tells him that she Loves him, he has to believe that it is true and sincere. Becca has to learn to put her past behind her and to get over the fear of playing piano in front of a crowd, but the love of a good man can help you overcome anything. I loved the contemporary romance IT’S IN HIS KISS the characters and story line are well-developed. There are some funny moments in the book that will have you grinning and laughing. I give IT’S IN HIS KISS BY JILL SHALVIS 5/5 STARS. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ANY OF THE LUCKY HARBOR SERIES, I URGE YOU TO DO SO. THEY ARE AWESOME.

BOOK REVIEW FOR “RIDING HOME” BY VICKI LEWIS THOMPSON

riding home viki lewis thompson

Book Description

August 1, 2014

Perfect is good.

Imperfect is even better…

City-slicker lawyer Jeannette Trenton is about as welcome at the Last Chance Ranch as a rattlesnake at a square dance. She’s there to atone for one major mistake. But Jeannette’s pretty sure righting her big wrong does not include thinking lustful thoughts about the ranch’s new cowhand….

Zach Powell knows Jeannette’s type—a wound-up-tight perfectionist with one eye on her email at all times. Heck, that used to be him. She needs to shake it loose, face her imperfections and allow herself to make mistakes. There’s definitely no mistake about the wickedly sexy vibe between them. This gal is gonna have to “cowboy up”…or miss the ride of her life!

I was given a copy of this book by Netalley for an honest review.

Vicki Lewis Thompson is a great writer and I always enjoy her books, but  RIDING HOME  did not keep my interest like the previous books. I still enjoyed it, but it took me a lot longer to finish. I seems like the writer is running out of ideas for this series.  Zach Powell has left Los Angeles for the quiet life. He had gotten tired of the jaded life and quite being a contract lawyer. He does not want to practice law again so he does not fall into bad habits again. When he meets Jeannette he feels that instant attraction with her, but will their relation go anywhere?   She is a lawyer and he does not want anything to do with being a lawyer. The characters are well-developed, so I give RIDING HOME 3/5 STARS. It just did not capture my attention like the others did.
