SYNOPSIS

He swore to never come back. She promised to hold him to his word.

After years of living the life his oppressive parents wanted for him, Cameron Blake is ready to pursue his dreams of being a reclusive artist. Pleasing the faithful baseball fans of the New York Emperors has been rewarding, but now all he wants is peace and quiet. That and an irreversible vasectomy. Because there’s no way he’s passing on the heavy burden of the Blake genes to an innocent child. But Cameron never gets what he wants. Ever.

The last thing Adrianna Arenas needs is for her ex to slide back into her life. Not when she can throw a nine-year-old curve ball that will change his game. Not when his father could tear her world apart with a simple phone call. Especially not when, despite everything that stands between them, her insides go wild when Cameron walks into a room. But Adri never gets to keep things the way she needs them. Ever.

After ten years, fate brings Cameron face-to-face with Adrianna, the woman he never forgot, and the little girl that ties them forever.

It all goes back to the secrets, jealousy, and heartache that destroyed the magical summer when they loved each other madly, broke each other’s hearts, and changed each other’s lives.

Read this second chance romance and find out if Adri and Cam’s story goes on the win column for love.

EXCERPT

Cameron listened from the door and rushed back to the couch when the bed shifted and soft footsteps tapped on the hardwood. By the time Adrianna came out of the room and closed the door, he was rifling through the magazine on the coffee table, Bron’s school catalog. She looked around the room, her hands clasped together like she couldn’t figure out where to sit. He could look at nothing else but her.

He’d found out he had a child today, his world flipped on its axis, and it all came back to Adrianna. Everything about her was the same and radically different at the same time. She still had the same bright, wide-as-a-mile, smile. The endless shade of rich, creamy skin he’d sketched over with his tongue and once immortalized in brown ochre. The color came close but would wither next to the real thing, the Faceless Angel Queen forged from a burning red hibiscus.

Their eyes met, and it was charged, like lightning through metal wires. His pulse revved up enough to force a hitch in his breath. His gaze slid down her no-longer rail-thin, but fuller, curvier body. Her breasts were now larger than a handful and her thicker ass made his mouth dry and his slacks tighten. She was a woman, no longer the eighteen-year-old girl who dumped, broke, and cursed him.

Would her skin still be as soft against my lips? The blood rushed straight down, tightening his groin. He squeezed the catalog too hard, crumbling the paper. He smoothed it out and set it aside.

She took the other end of the couch. A full cushion was between them as she sat and turned to face him, with her legs tucked under her. It took all his willpower not to move closer to her. Too many things stood between them, but his fingers itched to lose themselves in her hair and to kiss her mouth. He needed to know if her lips still tasted like summer peaches and glory, or if his imagination had embellished her with every passing second. No, I definitely should not touch her.

Her voice jarred him away from his thoughts.

“I found out I was pregnant when I was about six weeks along. I wasn’t feeling well for a while, but I thought it was something else, so I didn’t go to the doctor until I was forced to.” She pressed her thumb to her hand as she spoke.

“What did you think it was?” he asked, leaning closer, like a dog chasing the soft floral scent of her body.

“I was sad and crying a lot.”

He frowned. “Why?”

She peered at him under her lashes with eyes full of yesterday’s regrets. “You left.”

“You told me to leave and never come back, Adri.”

She nodded. “I know. I just never thought you would actually do it.”

EXCERPT

The Coven always makes me feel more in control. Our lounge is a reminder of how far we’ve come and everything we worked so hard for. Here in the Queen Anne chair, behind the massive desk, and surrounded by everything Carissa, Gia, and I built together, I’m Mel of The Trinity. Not Amelia Solis, a clusterfuck in human form.

That holds me together, so I can look into Gon’s eyes. He’d lost Byanca today but he’s still here, taking care of business without visible proof of the tears he’d shed earlier, when we had a moment alone, and we’d commiserated like only two people who lost someone they love can. But pain was there, flooding his gaze like a lighthouse lamp in the dead of night.

Everyone stares at me and I clear my throat. “We will need extra people around the perimeter of the lounge. We have to be diligent. If you think something looks weird, say something. Also, let’s be discreet. We don’t need our customers to feel…”

The door swings open, ushering in a gust of wind, and crashes against the wall behind it. I wrap my arms around my stomach, bracing for what’s coming. My body senses his presence before I see him. It’s like every pore, every vein, every muscle in me screams, he’s here.

He stalks through the door, all six-foot-four and two-hundred-twenty-five delicious pounds of warm brown skin. His burnt amber eyes are set on me, like he knows just where to find me in the room. My heart rattles like loose change in a piggy bank. The sight of him is like a shot of dark liquor because everything goes hazy and I feel drunk.

He doesn’t stop walking, making a beeline for me, not even stopping to kick the rest of the people out of the room. “Leave us.” His order, in an ultra-low tone, makes everyone scramble in a matter of seconds.

I snap out of the trance. “You don’t get to order my people around, Leandro. You’re not anyone’s second-in-command here.”

He keeps coming for me, ignoring my words and the space I’m trying to put between us with my extended palm. He snatches me into his arms, his lips crashing against mine. I taste his hunger and desperation. His mouth moves over mine and I get a taste of everything I deny myself, everything I try to forget, and the impotence that eats at me day after day. I taste Leandro.

EXCERPT

I never needed a drink to sleep before. Not the day I shot my first guy right through the eyes. Not during the years Sebastian tried to turn me into his little bitch. Not after I got shot, and it’d hurt like a motherfucker. I hadn’t needed a drink to sleep then.

Until Amelia Solis stormed into my life. It was bye-bye Leandro Masseur.

One fucking day, an elevator door opened and her laughter pealed out. God witnesses daily how much I wish I had never turned around to see her step out of that elevator. Every fucking thing in my life went to shit, dragged and smeared around at her will. One look at her and I’d fallen through a hole full of obsessions, eating all my player promises.

Never-love-them-Leo would never fall in love with a woman, let a woman call the shots, or spend hours thinking about a woman.

So how the hell do I, of all the fools in the world, find myself here? Waking up feeling like shit and worshiping at the altar of a woman determined not to be with me. The answer is simple and complicated.

Yes, it was the painted-on-her-skin, black dress that spotlighted her curves. And yes, it was the way she walked to a sexy beat like a Maxwell song. And yes, it was her Coke-can-red lips, weapons more dangerous than the knife she carried in her leather boot strap or purse or in a sheath under her skirts.

Last night, again, she’d driven me to the understanding, comforting arms of whiskey. Noah married Gia, but Amelia tells me we cannot be. We cannot be, but she eye-fucks me as our friends take their vows. I don’t blame her. I feasted on her, like a homeless man looking through the glass of a bakery. The things I did to her with my eyes and mind…me, her, the priest, the tent, the flowers, the chairs, all should have been on fire.

But no, the wedding’s over and she hightails it back to New York with some bullshit excuse about checking on her friend Byanca.

My phone beeps again. I snatch it and almost fall off the bed when I see her name. My heart jabs at my chest and I turn into a boy again. That’s what she does to me.

I’m sorry, her text says. I want to slam my phone against the wall, over and over until it shreds into plastic and wiry ribbons. I flip the cell on the bed away from me like it offends me. I lay back down, contemplating texting her back, telling her not to worry about me. I won’t be bothering her with my attention anymore. Leandro Masseur will go back to not begging her. She can have all the space she wants. As a matter of fact, I’ll give her more. I’ll be so distant that it’ll make all the states between New York and California seem like a stroll down the block.

A scream bounces off the walls and my heart punches through my chest. My hand palms the Glock under my pillow, my head already calculating where it came from, how to get there, if the hallway’s clear.

Everyone in the house scrolls through my mind at once. Alec, the twins, but my mind settles on Carissa. I don’t know when I left the bed. My next breath, I’m at the door, securing the hallway and making my way to the home office. Carissa wails, prickling every pore in my body and I know it’s bad. Bad enough to make my stomach clench because I don’t know what it is, or who.

Who, because someone’s dead.
