URBAN FANTASY-REVIEW AUDIBLE VERSION “CLEAN SWEEP” BY ILONA ANDREWS

clean sweep ilona andrews audible edition cover
Book Description
Publication Date: December 2, 2013
This is a short novel, about 60,000 words.

On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is…different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Under the circumstances, “normal” is a bit of a stretch for Dina.

And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night….Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans—an alpha-strain werewolf—and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she’s facing is unlike anything she’s ever encountered before. It’s smart, vicious, and lethal, and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.

BOOK DESCRIPTION COURTESY OF AMAZON

I decided to try the audible version of CLEAN SWEEP because I had just bought a Bluetooth headset for my phone. I would listen to this on my way to work, home man’s walking into work to clock in. Listening to Renee Raudman read this book brought the characters alive. Ilona Andrews brought this world alive, and the characters were well-developed. The storyline was awesome. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Dina Demille is an Inn Keeper. She runs the Inn for the supernatural, and when people and animals come up murdered, she knows that she has to find out who is doing it. I also love the verbal exchange by Dina and Sean Evans is really funny. There was one part where Sean kisses Dina, that had me laughing. Here is a quote from the book.

“Kissing Sean Evans was like drinking a shot of the strongest liquor in the world while it was on fire.”

If you have not read it I urge you to do so. I give CLEAN SWEEP 5/ 5 stars.

NAME THE TOP 10 BOOKS OF ALL TIME THAT MAKE YOU LAUGH

I don’t know about you but this was kind of hard. There are some books that are not in print anymore that still make me laugh that I still like to read, and wish I could get on my kindle. So here are my Top 10.

1. MOONLIGHT AND MAGIC- BY REBECCA PAISLEY-Product DetailsI read this book in 1990 and it made me laugh and it made me cry. Chimera and Sterling are great. Chimera thinks she can do magic and she is always stirring up trouble not on purpose, usually by accident. Also she is always talking, She truly frustrates Sterling and makes him take a long hard look at himself.

2. G.A. AIKEN- DRAGON ACTUALLY BOOK 1 DRAGON KIN-Product Details This is a very funny book. Annwyl the Bloody is a female warrior who men tend to cower in fear. She has a knack for decapitating legions of her ruthless brother’s soldier’s without pausing for breath. She would like to just have a nice conversation with a man like she can with Fearghus the Destroyer. Too bad he is a dragon. When these two meet and when she finds out who and what he is made for some funny situations.

3.SHELLY LAURENSTON -PACK CHALLANGE-Product Details

4. KAREN CHANCE- DEATH’S MISTRESS- Product Details

5.PATRICIA BRIGGS- FROST BURNED-Product DetailsI PICKED THIS ONE, BECAUSE OF THE SCENE AT THE FIRST, WHEN SHANNON ASKS MERCY WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE A BABY AND MERCY RUNS INTO THE BACKEND OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER.

6. ILONA ANDREWS- MAGIC BLEEDS-Product DetailsI LIKED ALL THE KATE DANIELS BOOKS . THEY ALL MAKE ME LAUGH, SOME MORE THAN OTHERS.

7.KIM HARRISON -PALE DEMON-Product Details

8. KATIE MacALISTER- YOU SLAY ME-Product Details

9. SANDRA HILL- THE BLUE VIKING-The Blue Viking (Viking I)

10. SPLENDOR- BY CATHERINE HART  I read this in 1993. My Mom still remembers me bustin’ out laughing when I was reading this book. She keeps telling me that I have not read a book since then that has made me laugh that hard. The story is about a pirate Devlin Kane who is hit by A BOLT OF ST. ELMO’S Fire and so is his trained falcon one stormy night. When he wakes up he is invisible. He knows he is not dead and therefore a ghost, because he can lift objects. He meets Eden Winters the only person that can see him, and they strike a bargain to help him regain his body and he will help her pay off her debts.

REVIEW FOR “GUNMETAL MAGIC” BY ILONA ANDREWS

Gunmetal Magic  If you are a fan of the Kate Daniels series, then you will love this book. This is Andrea’s story after she has been kicked out of the Order of the Knights of  Merciful Aid. Everyone now knows that she is a shifter and that she is beastkin, and her life is in shambles. She is trying to put her life back together, and while she is doing this she is working for Kate at her investigative firm, Cutting Edge.

When she is called in to investigate a local dig site that shifters from  the local Bouda clan die. She has to work with her former lover Raphael  Medrano, who owns the dig site, to find the killer before anyone else gets hurt. Can she keep her feelings and her temper under control around him or will she lose her heart once again?

I loved this book. It was another well written book by the husband and wife team. One of my favorite parts is where she had to go all beastkin and had to stay that way for the whole day. Otherwise she would be done for the day.  In comes Kate and Curran and Andrea is sitting at her chair leaning back drinking a cold drink with goop all over her, and they don’t really bat an eye at her. There are a lot of funny moments in this book, so be prepared to laugh a lot.

I give this 5/5 stars.
