Just an update on how my Grandmother is doing. She is still in Health South Rehabilitation Center. They are so under staffed it is unreal. Grandma’s rehab has taken a set back because the first time was she became dehydrated. She is still unable to swallow, and they did not give her enough fluids while she was doing her Rehab. So she ended up collapsing , while they were trying to get her to stand up. Now she has an infection, that has set her back again. The Doctor was telling us that they might have to discharge her around Dec. 22 because she was not showing enough of an improvement.
We stated that how can she improve when they neglect to make sure she is adequately hydrated, and then the staff does not make sure the conditions are clean enough that she ends up getting an infection caused by feces in the wound of her feeding tube. Now they are doing one on one sessions with her with the therapists. The therapist that she really likes put muscle stimulator machine on her left leg , and her leg kicked up. He was really happy. He said that was the best he has seen in there at that facility. He asked my Grandmother if she could kick her leg up, and she told him to come closer and she would kick him. He replied that he would let her kick him if it would get her to walking. The therapist also told us he would talk with the Doctors in regards to her progress, so I have a feeling if he says she has to stay then they will probably have to keep her in there.
She is also talking a lot clearer to were you can understand her and hear her now. It is still going to be a long road to recovery. We just have to have patience and not wear ourselves out trying to care for her and my Grandfather.
I was just letting everyone know a quick update on my Grandmother. She passed out during her physical therapy session today, but she is fine. She was just dehydrated, and they hooked an I.V. up to her to replenish her fluids. My mom and me were talking about this the other day that she was not getting enough nutrients through her feeding tube. She is still having trouble swallowing so she is not able to have liquids by mouth so she is not able to replenish her fluids like she should after her rehab sessions.
It really was only a matter of tome before this happened. It was during the session when they were helping her walk and she passed out. The guy behind her was able to keep her upright and get her in a chair. The y called the ambulance and a doctor checked her out and she was o.k.. She is still at Health South Rehab Center. The doctor thought it best to keep her there and just hook up an I.V. and just monitor her there. Otherwise she is doing very well on rehab. She is still having trouble with her left arm, but she was complaining that it was hurting and itching. So I believe the nerves are waking up. When I have more to report I will let you know. Thank you for all your prayers.
I was writing to let everyone know the status of my Grandmother. She is doing very well. They did put a feeding tube in her stomach since she is still having a little trouble swallowing. They also moved her to Health South rehabilitation facility, so they can concentrate on her rehabilitation. They say she might be in there two months or more. This is the first night that no one has stayed with her since she had the stroke. It has hard for everyone to leave her by herself. I think she was even a little scared to be by herself also.
It is kind of scary to face something like that, and be a little vulnerable and not be able to help yourself. Especially be able to call out to family to help you. You always know family are always there for you. It will be kind of hard not having her with us at the table on Thanksgiving, but she will be with us in spirit. Mom and Grandpa will be going to see her tomorrow on Thanksgiving, and my niece and I will be cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
Happy Thanksgiving, and appreciate life and those around you. For you never know when you might lose them. Tell them you love them, and if you are having troubles nothing is worth losing the love of family. They are the heart and soul that keeps us going on, so love them and thank the Lord that you have them.
With Thanksgiving just 6 days away, I sit here wondering what everyone is most thankful for this year? A lot of you already know what I am thankful for, and it was a recent occurrence . I am thankful that I have the most remarkable lady still with us. Even though we almost lost her to a stroke she is a fighter. She was even fighting with us when the EMT’s arrived, she was telling us that she was not having a stroke that it was a seizure and she was fine and she did not need to go to the hospital.
She is getting stronger each and everyday. and now that we that we have dismissed the neurologist that was treating her, she is a lot better. That doctor is a quack and should not practice, he had only saw my grandmother once the whole time she has been in the hospital. Now that we have a doctor who knows what he is doing she is making progress. So I am grateful this Thanksgiving for the most remarkable woman, my Grandmother Ethel Steward, who is not letting a stroke beat her. She is beating it.
Love You Grandma!!!
Tell me what you are thankful for this Thanksgiving.
I am also thankful for all of you, my community who read my blog. If it was not for all of you and your prayers, I might not have my Grandmother still with me. So I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart, you don’t know how much it meant to me. So thank you.
I just want to give you an update on my Grandmother. She is still doing well, and is as spunky as ever. She is getting where she is talking better. Her heart Doctor showed up last night at about 12 last night. He asked if the other doctor(neurologist) has been in to see her, they told him no. That he has only seen her the once. There was supposed to been a Doctor that was a specialist on bleeding in the brain that was supposed to see her. He has not shown up. I don’t know id the neurologist didn’t call for him, or what.
The family‘s whole opinion on this neurologist is that he has basically has written my Grandmother off, and is just waiting for her to die. Well we have news for him, my Grandmother has a lot of fight in her and she is here to stay. The family definitely having the neurologist removed from her case, and we are going to get him for neglect of my Grandmother. He is not doing anything to help her to get better. The heart Doctor, my Grandmothers heart Doctor, is doing more for her and us than the other doctor. He has put our fears to rest. So once we get the other neurologist looking out for my Grandmother, things should get better. They are going to start her physical therapy back up. They stopped it when they put her in ICU.
I will go for now, but I will write more updates when we receive more. Thank you all for your prayers. They are definitely helping, for we still have her with us. So, now we just have to work on completely getting her well and home.
