Faith Hunter’s DARK QUEEN – Blog Tour

Dark Queen Blog Tour Banner

About the book:
Jane Yellowrock used to hunt vampires, but now she must fight–and win–beside them.

As Enforcer to the vampire Master of the City of New Orleans, Jane Yellowrock stakes her reputation and her life on keeping her territory safe. But Leo has been issued a blood challenge by the emperor of the European vampires, who seeks to usurp all of his power and possessions. If Leo loses the match to the death, the city will be forfeit, and the people of New Orleans will suffer the consequences. Jane can’t let that happen.

Preparing for the duel requires all of Jane’s focus, but with so much supernatural power in play, nothing goes according to plan. She has to rely on herself and the very few people she knows she can trust to stand and fight. Only two things are guaranteed: nothing is sacred, and no one is safe.

Excerpt #6:
I Killed the Only U’tlun’ta in NOLA
Excerpt #6
The shooter was lying on the very dusty foyer floor, the dust well scuffed around him, smeared all over his nice pants and jacket. We had a renovation going, opening the attic into a third floor, and the dust had quickly become ubiquitous. Even Eli’s super-neat streak couldn’t keep up with it.
Eli said, “He had a big-cat tooth amulet. Like yours.”
“Yeah. He did.” I wore my tooth fetish on a gold chain around my neck, with the gold nugget that tied me metaphysically to the time and place I’d shifted for the first time as an adult. Most days, I hardly noticed the necklace; it was part of me. I also owned several fetish necklaces with the bones and teeth of other predators I might need to change into, and I’d added a few creatures to my collection recently. I had the ability to shift into prey animals of a similar mass, but Beast hated it when I did that. She was a carnivore and preferred to never be a prey animal. She was also grumpy and callously passive-aggressive. I tried to keep her happy.
I closed my door on Eli and the stranger and tossed my black jammies on the bed. I took a half dozen antacid tablets, four aspirin, and two Tylenol. Meds don’t work on me like they do on humans, but at this point I was willing to try anything. I dressed in jeans and layered tees and stomped into an old, scuffed pair of Lucchese boots. They had started out a gorgeous green, but I hadn’t made a habit of cleaning and caring for the leather, and the damp Louisiana air had left them sorta moldy on the outside. I wiped them down with a rag to reveal the color of the leather, which had weathered to a greenish charcoal. They looked like something I’d wear to a barn to muck out stalls. I really needed to pay them some attention. I combed and braided my hair and slashed lipstick on my mouth. Looked at myself in the mirror. Black hair. Amber eyes. Golden-copper skin.
The man had hair the same length and color as mine. I ran my hand down my braid. Same texture. He was Tsalagi. He was skinwalker.
I was no longer alone in the world.

REVIEW

I was given a copy by Netgalley and the Publisher for an honest review.

If you had one word to describe this book, mine would be “WOW!”. DARK QUEEN will have you on an emotional roller coaster, that you have been through the wringer. Faith Hunter is truly a master of her craft. I am so glad this was not the last book of the series and the publishing Gods have taken pity on us and given us two more books in the series. How can I sum up the book without giving away any spoilers? We all know that Jane and The Vamps of New Orleans are getting ready for the SANGRE DUELLO. During all the preparing a new twist is thrown in. Someone claiming to be her brother shows up at her doorstep. Even though Jane has made a family with the Youngers and a few others, this brings up a lot of questions. One is why didn’t anyone come looking for her until now? Wouldn’t they want to know what has happened to her? Jane has to keep her focus on the European Vamps and making sure they don’t sabotage the Sangre Duello. With each book Jane’s character has grown. I love the characters and world building that Faith Hunter has created. I recommend this book and series to everyone. I give Dark Queen (Jane Yellowrock) 5/5 stars.

EXCERPT

Jordan walked closer to the gazebo where Heather fussed with the flower vines, but she dropped her hands and moved instead to the edge. She faced the lake, a breeze causing the clear water to lap against the rocks on the narrow shore.

“Pretty, isn’t it?”

Heather spun around like a frightened deer when it hears a branch break in the woods, knowing someone or something is close.

Blue-gray. He should have known her eyes would reflect a stormy sky, for when she looked at him, a storm raged within. Jordan wanted—no needed—to shake himself out of whatever “twitterpation” he was currently experiencing.  The need was there, but the need to ignore his own sage advice proved to be stronger.

He realized the moment she recognized him. Her body relaxed, though Jordan couldn’t explain the apprehension in her gaze. “Beautiful.” Heather turned back to face the water, and Jordan accepted the action as an invitation to join her. He sat on the railing of the gazebo and waited for her to look at him again. He thought he saw her lovely porcelain skin turn a pretty shade of pink.

“I’m sorry, but do I make you nervous? I can leave if I am.” Jordan was appalled at the possibility, and he usually didn’t read the signs wrong, but as his brothers would say, he couldn’t get lucky every time.

Heather did look at him then, this time with her rosy lips turned into a smile. Dimples. Now why wasn’t he surprised?

“No, you don’t make me nervous. Is there any reason why you should?”

Now this was interesting. Timid kitten to playful and readable. “I can’t think of a single reason, though I’m a guy, so I’m sure there’s at least one.”

Her laugh was rich and hit the perfect seductive note. He doubted she even realized the effect she had on him.

“At least you’re honest. I’m Heather York.”

“Jordan Kyndall.”

EXCERPT

“Come in, Grace.” Joe stretches his arm, welcoming me.

Nix’s broad shoulders, large frame, and sinewy muscles are intimidating yet magnificently striking. My eyes are immediately drawn to him, which makes for a stupid move since his fierce glare is aimed at me.

He doesn’t waste a single second before starting his barrage of words. “Do you know the shit storm you’re putting them in? Isn’t it enough that I got you here in one piece? You didn’t learn from what happened the other day?” He points at me and sneers in anger. “Let me tell you something; two of the beating hearts in this room are mine to protect.”

My eyes volley from Joe to Mama Ada, both wearing somber faces.

“You’d better pack your bags before shit hits the fan and more people end up dead because of you!”

“Phoenix Matthew Hayes!” Mama Ada bellows.

His words hurt. They cut deep.

But aren’t they the truth? Mother Gertrude and the rest of the nuns were lucky to survive the past ten years.

We both ignore Mama Ada as our eyes duel in a stare-down standoff.

“I am sorry for upsetting you; it wasn’t my intention. Mama Ada wants company. We go to church together. I give in to her whims to somehow repay her and your family for protecting me—a nobody in your book. If it puts them at risk, I will leave. I am sorry, truly sorry, for not thinking about the danger.”

I turn to face Joe, my tears blur my vision. “I’m sorry for causing a rift between you and your family.”

Turning to face Nix again, I say, “Give me a few minutes to get my stuff, and I’ll go wherever you want me to.”

“You could have been killed! Rachel could’ve been killed! How could you be so irresponsible?”

My lips itch to confess the truth. But throwing Rachel under the bus is not an option. “If they get lucky enough to kill me, then so be it. No one can save me forever, Nix. Not even you. I don’t care anymore.”

“Well, I fucking care! I put my life on the line for people like you!” He jabs his finger in my direction. “I put Mama Ada through hell and back each time I go on a mission.” He points his finger at her. “So, please…do not cheapen what I do by saying stupid shit!”

“I’m not cheapening anything. I’m just tired of running. I don’t know why you can’t at least understand that.”

About Gigi:

I grew up in the Philippines but now live in California with my husband, two girls, and Loki, the house cat. If my husband is the yin to my yang, Andrea is the Marlin to my Dory while Allysa is the Buzz Lightyear to my Woody.

I love the beach, but I hate the sand. I love to travel, but I hate to fly. I love to eat, but I hate gaining weight—all women can relate to this. These are a few of my little quirks in life.

In addition to writing, I enjoy reading, binge-watching a new series on Netflix, watching action-packed movies, listening to my youngest sing, and observing my oldest cook. I’m an avid fan of The Walking Dead, The Brave, The Good Doctor, Scandal, and Stranger Things. I love watching reality shows, too. I love Survivor, The Amazing Race, and Big Brother to name a few.

Today we have the blog tour for Donya Lynne’s CHOOSE ME! This is the first book in a new series that is out now and is FREE! Check it out and grab your copy of the series today!

Choose Me cover

Title: CHOOSE ME

Author: Donya Lynne

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Choose Me teaser

About Choose Me:

She wants a sexy summer fling. He wants more. And he won’t stop until he gets it.

NOTE: This book was previously published as part of the 7-book Banger Serialized Novel. While the series has been rebranded as a trilogy, and the story slightly altered to accommodate the new format, it is the same story. Please do not buy this book thinking it is a different story or a continuation of the previous Banger books. Thank you.

Katherine Clayton, divorcée and single mother of two, just sent her kids to California to spend the summer with their father. During the ten months of the year when they’re in her custody, she gives all of herself to her children. She doesn’t even date. But the summers are hers, and she’s going to make the most of their absence with her annual summer fling.

Unfortunately, her past four summer romances have fallen flat. If she can’t find a man this summer who can fulfill her needs, this year’s fling will be her last. Katherine needs a man who won’t leave her unsatisfied. For her, bigger truly is better, and anything less than huge won’t do.

Greyson James is more man below the waist than most women can handle, and he’s beyond frustrated that he’s unable to enjoy the great sex other men take for granted. Since he finds no pleasure in causing women pain, traditional sex has become a novelty . . . until he meets Katherine. She’s exactly what he needs and vice versa. And the chemistry between them is undeniable.

But after one night of intense passion, neither is prepared for the wicked ride fate has in store for them. Katherine just inherited her retiring father’s company, and the last thing on her mind is selling. But that’s exactly what Greyson wants her to do, which she finds out in a shocking turn of events when she shows up to a meeting in her father’s place to find that the person she’s meeting with is none other than the captivating man she spent one gloriously erotic night with just days before.

Now Katherine must decide if she can trust Greyson with not only her heart, but her company.

As the Banger Trilogy unfolds, Greyson and Katherine will wrestle with their feelings for each other, long-held family secrets will be revealed, and scandals neither could have imagined will rock them to the core.

Will what they’ve found in each other be enough for happily ever after? Or will one passionate summer be all they share?

EXCERPT

“So, what’s your favorite color?” I ask, taking a break from the list of questions on my phone.

“That depends.”

“On what?”

“My mood. The season.” She smiles and brushes her hand in the air. “The direction the wind is blowing.” She winks and gestures toward my suit. “Let me guess, your favorite color is blue.”

I glance down, smoothing my hand down my lapels. I’m wearing blue on blue on blue.

I grin sheepishly. “Normally, I would say yes, but blue hasn’t been my friend for the past couple of days.”

A cute little V forms above the bridge of her nose as her eyebrows scrunch. “Why? What happened?”

“Nothing happened.” I lower my voice and lean closer. “It’s just that blue balls aren’t very comfortable.”

She nearly spits out her wine as she bursts into laughter. We’re both tipsy, and it shows.

I kick back in my seat and lift my glass, swirling the last bit of my wine. “You laugh,” I tease, “but blue balls are nothing to laugh at. I was in a lot of distress.”

She dabs her cloth napkin under her eyes. “I’m sure you were.” She continues giggling.

“But yeah, that’s why blue isn’t my favorite color today.”

She sighs as the last of her giggles evaporate. “I hope I’m not the reason for your blue balls.”

I only smile and sip my wine, holding her gaze.

Realization surfaces in her eyes. “Oh.”

Grinning slyly, I slide closer on the cushioned seat. “Don’t worry, I prevented the worst of it. But damn, Katherine, you’ve given me a lot to think about the past two days. Not that I’m complaining. I like thinking about you. It’s just distracting when I’m trying to work.”

Her cheeks flush red, and she touches the tips of her fingers to the skin at the base of her neck as she averts her gaze. “I’ll try not to do anything tonight to make your predicament worse.” She glances up at me out of the corners of her eyes.

I drape my arm over the back of the cushion behind her and meet her wry smile with one of my own. “It’s too late for that, Katherine. It was too late the moment you walked in the door. I’ll be thinking about you the rest of the week now.”

She drops her gaze, her face flushed, her smile both contemplative and awkward. She’s rattled, and I can see her arousal mounting both by the way she nibbles the inside of her bottom lip and the way her chest rises and falls more heavily.

“Greyson James,” she says slowly, thoughtfully, as if trying to distract herself. She’s sitting so close now that her leg is pressed against mine. “You have a strong name. It rolls nicely off my tongue.”

Hearing my name purr out of her works better at turning me on than if she’d licked the side of my neck.

I tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “I think Katherine Clayton rolls nicely off mine.” The double entendre is intended, and from the way she bites her bottom lip as she angles her face toward me, I know she picked it up.

And that’s when I know.

Despite my plans to behave tonight, I’m going to do something careless. Something foolish. Something undeniably reckless.

Something liberating.
