BOOK REVIEW -HEARTBREAK HOTEL BY DEBORAH MOGGACH

Book Description
Publication Date: March 3, 2015

By the author of the bestselling The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Tulip Fever, the hilarious and romantic novel set in a crumbling bed and breakfast

In her effortlessly winning novels Tulip Fever and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Deborah Moggach charmed readers and critics alike with her generous prose and hilarious dialogue. With Heartbreak Hotel, Moggach has triumphed once again.

When retired actor Buffy decides to leave London and move to rural Wales, he has no idea what he is letting himself in for.

In possession of a run-down bed and breakfast that leans more toward the shabby than the chic and is, quite literally, miles from nowhere, Buffy realizes that he needs to fill the beds—and fast. Otherwise, his vision of the pastoral countryside will go up in smoke.

Enter a motley collection of guests: Harold, whose wife has run off with a younger woman; Amy, who’s been unexpectedly dumped by her (not-so) nebbishy boyfriend and Andy, the hypochondriac postman whose girlfriend is much too much for him to handle. But under Buffy’s watchful eye, this disparate group of strangers finds that they have more in common than perhaps they first thought.

A charming romantic comedy that will captivate even the most determined urbanite, Heartbreak Hotel is a supreme entertainment.

I was given a copy of this book by the Author for an honest review.

HEARTBREAK HOTEL is an eclectic group of people. It bring these people together when their marriage or relationship have ended. It also follows the life of retired actor Russell Buffery(Buffy). Buffy inherits a B&B from a friend.  This is a classic story that will make you laugh and cry. I enjoyed this novel. I had never read this author before, but I will definitely put her on my TBR pile. I give HEARTBREAK HOTEL 4/5 stars.

URBAN FANTASY-REVIEW AUDIBLE VERSION “CLEAN SWEEP” BY ILONA ANDREWS

clean sweep ilona andrews audible edition cover
Book Description
Publication Date: December 2, 2013
This is a short novel, about 60,000 words.

On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is…different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Under the circumstances, “normal” is a bit of a stretch for Dina.

And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night….Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans—an alpha-strain werewolf—and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she’s facing is unlike anything she’s ever encountered before. It’s smart, vicious, and lethal, and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.

I decided to try the audible version of CLEAN SWEEP because I had just bought a Bluetooth headset for my phone. I would listen to this on my way to work, home man’s walking into work to clock in. Listening to Renee Raudman read this book brought the characters alive. Ilona Andrews brought this world alive, and the characters were well-developed. The storyline was awesome. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Dina Demille is an Inn Keeper. She runs the Inn for the supernatural, and when people and animals come up murdered, she knows that she has to find out who is doing it. I also love the verbal exchange by Dina and Sean Evans is really funny. There was one part where Sean kisses Dina, that had me laughing. Here is a quote from the book.

“Kissing Sean Evans was like drinking a shot of the strongest liquor in the world while it was on fire.”

If you have not read it I urge you to do so. I give CLEAN SWEEP 5/ 5 stars.
