DEFY BY SARA B. LARSON

Book Description

         Publication Date:         January 7, 2014
A lush and gorgeously written debut, packed with action, intrigue, and heart-racing romance.
Alexa Hollen is a fighter. Forced to disguise herself as a boy and serve in the king’s army, Alex uses her quick wit and fierce sword-fighting skills to earn a spot on the elite prince’s guard. But when a powerful sorcerer sneaks into the palace in the dead of night, even Alex, who is virtually unbeatable, can’t prevent him from abducting her, her fellow guard and friend Rylan, and Prince Damian, taking them through the treacherous wilds of the jungle and deep into enemy territory.
The longer Alex is held captive with both Rylan and the prince, the more she realizes that she is not the only one who has been keeping dangerous secrets. And suddenly, after her own secret is revealed, Alex finds herself confronted with two men vying for her heart: the safe and steady Rylan, who has always cared for her, and the dark, intriguing Damian. With hidden foes lurking around every corner, is Alex strong enough to save herself and the kingdom she’s sworn to protect?

I WAS GIVEN A COPY OF THIS BOOK BY NETGALLEY FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.
This book focuses more on the romance, especially  the love triangle between Alexa, Prince Damien, and her best friend Rylan. This novel was a fun fast read. Alexa is forced to cut her hair and act like a boy to survive. This book  combines dystopania with fantasy. It is a thrilling adventure with clean romance. It was a really great book and I give it 4/5 stars.

SORRY I HAVE BEEN ABSENT IN MY POSTING!

You have probably noticed that I have been posting a lot less here lately.  I have been battling severe allergies that have turned into severe congestion and laryngitis.  I still have a little congestion and I seem to not be able to get rid of the dang cough. I went to the doctor last week for my 3 month check up and she put me on a new pill to try to help me lose weight. It is a combination of two medications and is supposed to have better results than the medication being separate. This is when she also prescribed medicine for the congestion.

I am out of the medicine to dry up the congestion, but I still have antibiotics left. I am taking OTC mucinex TO HELP GET RID OF THE CONGESTION. I don’t know if it is all the congestion or what, but here lately I have been really tired. I know it can’t be my iron , because the doctor keeps an eye on it. So I have no clue why I am tired all the time. I will try to post more than I have, but when you are sick, and tired your brain doesn’t work very well. It is hard to think of things to write about. I will talk with you next time.

This was a great, hot read with well-developed characters and story line. The chemistry between the characters is very hot, that I had to make sure that my kindle was not overheating.  The more she learns about him and his past, the more she fall in love with him. They had many entertaining adventures that had you waiting to see what was next. It had you laughing and crying at parts of the story. I recommend it to everyone to read. Jennifer Haymore did it again with THE ROGUE’S PROPOSAL. I GIVE IT 4/5 STARS.

REVIEW: NIGHT BROKEN BY PATRICIA BRIGGS

Book Description

         Publication Date:         March 11, 2014
#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Fiction Vixen). Now, Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a threat unlike anything she’s ever known.
An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from a stalker. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.
Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s stalker is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.

Patricia Briggs does it again with an outstanding addition to the MERCY THOMPSON SERIES with NIGHT BROKEN. Mercy is not happy that Adam’s Ex is coming to stay with them, but she knows until the threat to her is gone it has to happen. Christy is being stalked by a Volcano God who thinks Christy is his lost love, and anyone who stands in his way of getting her back will die. Christy does things that make Mercy look petty and selfish and makes her look like the poor defenseless Ex. Mercy ends up with sweet revenge in the end. one of my favorite parts in the book is where the pack is at Honey’s place and they are watching the video footage from the security cameras at Mercy’s shop. She is battling the Volcano God and they are studying them from every angle.
“Fragile my aching butt. How did she manage to avoid his swing and hit him with the gun? I wish we had this from a slightly different angle.”
“We do,” said Ben. “We have four discs. This one is Garage Cam One. There’s also Outside Cam One, Office Cam One, and Garage Cam Two.”
I like this quote from Warren:
“Takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’.” said Warren. “That’s our Mercy.”
This lets the pack know that even though she is a coyote she can handle her own and is an asset to the pack. This book has so many twists and turns, that it makes it outstanding. I love this series and recommend it to everyone. I give it 5/ 5 stars.
Here is a collection of stories coming out September  2,2014.
