  1. I love your list. They’re all books/authors that I love. I have to go with Harry Potter also. I’ve reread the books so many times I can quote entire passages verbatim. I don’t know if this is a good thing or not! There’s something about the books though that is just pure escapism. Whenever I hit a rough patch in my life I dive back into the magical world of Hogwarts.

  2. My favorite series (not counting trilogies)
    1. Hands down, Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files. Best Urban Fantasy ever!
    2. Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas books. Oddie is a love.
    3. Seanan McGuire’s Toby Daye series. Love the fey. And Tybalt!
    4. Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires. Merit and Ethan, so good together!
    5. Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels. Curran & Kate, nearly as good as the above.
    6. Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan/Hollows series
    7. Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson & even better, her Alpha & Omega spin-off.

All of these have exceptional world-building, characters I’m invested in, and above average writing technique skills.

The order can shift a bit on any given day, except for the top 4. The are pretty much immutable. I used to enjoy Jane Yellowrock, too, but I’m too angry with her to read any more. We have had to come to a parting of the ways.

(And Harry Potter was lovely! In a league of its own.)
